    Has anyone picked this up?

I'm considering getting it at some point and was looking for opinions for the XBox version.

First person to come in here and tout the PC version over the XBox version get's strung up by there big toes, ridiculed and shoved in the box with KA.

Well, from what I take it, it doesn't have multiplayer of any kind, which surprised me.

The game looks great, I'll give it that. One of the best things about HL games are all the cool mods people make for them. You aren't going to get any of that on a console. It's ok for some things, like Halo for instance, but for others, like HL and Quake, it's part of the whole experience.

I'd say if you don't already have it and you don't have a pc that can run it pretty good, then go for it. Otherwise I'd say get the pc version. You just get far more content.

Mods, New game offers like Day of Defeat Source and Counter Strike Source and free games like Lost Coast. I would say it doesn't make a difference if you want Half Life 2, but the price is better for the PC considering you get the Deathmatch and Counter Strike. If it's cheap go nuts.

I'll give you my honest opinion on Half-Life 2, regardless of platform.

The game itself is downright amazing. My PC is just about hitting the "low-end" spectrum of the gamimg PC world and I was still able to get stunning graphics. If they've optimized the game solely for the Xbox, I expect you'll probably have a more tantalizing set of visuals in the game then even I did.

The story is fun, particularly if you're keeping up with the Half-Life universe. What other worlds have the Combine invaded? Do they always assimilate other species like they did with us? Just how far did the Earth/Xen species evolution go while Freeman was in limbo?

I haven't played many video games, but I'd like to think I know a great game when I see one. This game is fantastic. Even if you play it through on single-player and then re-sell it for something else, that month (week? day or two?) of gameplay is so worth it.

I have no idea if my PC can run it or not, and quite frankly I don't care if it can.
I'm done with playing games on my PC (save for the C&C series and maybe CoH/CoV)

Thanks, you might have just persuaded me to get it.

There is a lot of good stuff going on in HL2, so even if the Xbox doesn’t look quite as good as a high end PC, or the magical mouse/ key board controls I still think it’s worth playing.

Indeed, but I think you get more "bang for your buck" with the PC version. BTW, what are your computer specs so we know if you CAN play or not?

You are asking me to prove I can run the game on my PC because why?
Well any way I have an Athlon 2.2gh with 512mb of ram and a Radeon 9800 pro vid card.

And here is a cap of my desk top showing that I have it installed.

Now I know PC has all sorts of mods and other groove stuff the Xbox version can’t have but the PC version is clearly not an option for Boadwise and I am of the opinion that even with out all that extra junk HL2 is still worth playing.

If I may ask, how come you don't want to play anything else on pc?

    It still works!

My guess would be that PC gaming is an expensive sinkhole of crap. Not only are you paying approximately $300 every 6-12 months on new graphics hardware to keep ahead of the curve... wait, thats not true, more like STAY ON THE CURVE, the fact that there are only really 3 genres of game on PC's is kinda limiting considering for that $300 you can get a next-gen console or even a current gen one and enjoy a plethora of genres.

See how I deftly avoided stuff like drivers, and other annoying crap? Thats a really attractive part of the platform too.

    For fucks sake.

I specifically asked for people NOT to come in here and tout the PC version over the XBox and what do I find?

    Precisely that.

Next time, read the post and understand them.

The only bad thing I can think of about the Xbox version has been reports of long load times. Otherwise, go for it.

We'd end up banning half the forum.

Actually, that's not such a bad idea....

    Ban me ban me!

Half Life 2 on the PC is the bestest! Playing it on anything else is like playing... a different... game.
