Hailstorm: Recreation (pic heavy) Hailstorm, heroic Decepticon knight Motto: ~The only limit a cybertronian's spark has, is never realizing it has no limits.~ Bio: On the outside one may think Hailstorm is nothing but an under-armored, quiet-mouthed weakling, however this is far from true, Hailstorm's cybertanium endo-skeletal main-framing is actually quite strong and durable, because of this he requires little armor for protection, just his sharp mouth, an even sharper blade, and a quick-wit and lightning fast alt mode to match. Hailstorm has studied almost all forms of ancient cybertronian swordsmanship, and is the second known mech on cybertron to carry a Greatsword, the first being the Autobot criminal Drift, if ever there's a time where decepticon morale is low or fellow teammates and even megatron feel down, they can always count on hailstorm for encouragement and even a joke or two. (and now onto the figure itself!) where to start? after the semi-horrid first attempt that was my http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/450968-shattered-glass-custom-decepticon-tactical-assault-specialist-hailstorm-my-fc.html i gradually started taking parts off the original for other things, and eventually the base energon starscream figure broke from being so play worn, after that i thought about a few different base figures that could fit my custom character, but after having my love for mid-evil swordsmanship rekindled thanks to a little anime known as Sword Art Online and just fiddling around with my BH starscream and some spare parts, it struck me, why not re-create my shattered glass OC into something more unique? after 3 days of cutting, supergluing, and paintwork, here's what i have so far! (P.S: first person to catch what this figure's homaging you get to pick the nickname for Hailstorm's sword) the FOC-Brawl-legs-as-backpack idea comes from Erricks1's Profile - TFW2005 - The 2005 Boards who came up with the technique for his custom FOC arcee figure no alt mode yet as i literally just let the paint dry and am about to hit the sack, i still need to finish detailing robot mode, start detailing alt-mode, and sand a few things down for transformation to fit perfectly (i will also update hailstorm's bio with alt mode description and name) enjoy and let me know what you think! The "static pose" Side view close-up of Hailstorms head (catching the homage yet?) Back view showing off sword storage thanks to the 5mm hole on Hailstorm's back up-close shot of Hailstorm's sword on his back Hailstorm wielding his Greatsword "a gun to a sword-fight? i think not" "so tell me, have you gotten your daily dose of sword inflicted damage? because i don't think you have, let me fix that for you "
Thanks! I don't have SG drift but i can post some comparison shots with classics drift Wow, looking at him he kinda does, i never even thought of that!
Not sure if yours are attached like mine but I was messing around and came up with this........ a second set of arms
OOH! that's awesome, yeah mine are on ball joints for transformation, though due to the wings i put on the legs the fingers cant fold out anymore though this is inspiring me to fiddle around with them and see if i can give him some extra modes or configurations
UPDATE: alt-mode pics added! as promised, here's Hailstorm's alt-mode so far! an experimental space fighter known as the "SPARTAN-112 Blue Lancer" little modding was needed to fit his sword under the jet nose, just simply cut the landing gear off and put the 5mm peghole on the hand-guard in its place and vwa-la, vehicle mode weapon storage, it's in this mode where alot of homages shine through, one of the more notable being G1 starsaber but with a sleeker more elongated profile, as i said before if you can figure out what specifically i'm homaging you get to nickname the Greatsword Hailstorm carries, i know that's alittle BRAVE of me, but i know you guys can get it! overview shot of alt mode side view front view back view up-close view of Hailstorm's sword plugged underneath the nose of alt mode close-up shot of landing gear section with the landing gear removed
good question! i tested a few hip ball joint connectors from various spare part figures, FOC shockwave turns out to share a hip socket size with brawl, so i cut the piece in half and sanded the pieces so i could super glue them in place in the holes starscreams wing piece fit into
I used the same hips but I didn't split them in half, just cut the loop off and wielded things down a bit til it fit in a slot I created in his back. Love the alt mode pics, reminds me of the waverider from gundam.
You're actually in the right place with gundam in terms of what i'm homaging Thank you he's by far one of the best customs i've put alot of time and passion into what i've done so far, all that's left is minor detailing
