I can't see this working at all. If they worked along side Activision it would probably be seen as them allowing them to use the rights.
I just find it hilarious that Gibson licensed out the name to a company that was infringing on their patent. WTF.
Oh for fuck's sake! In other words Gibson was on board and licensed the right to use the likeness because they thought nothing of it. Now that Guitar Hero prints money there is a problem. Typical.
Though to be fair, Slash shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as those two particular guitarist. And for the love of god, please get rid of that ridiculously huge image that screws up the screen when you try to reply.
Clicked on this thinking it had to do with that whole HMX suing Activision over royalties... Wow, Activision just isn't having a good run.
I'm surprised though that Konami has never been on Activision's tail for Guitar Hero. They have been hounding all other similar musical games in the region (ie. Ez2dj - Beat Mania series, Pump It Up - DDR series, etc.), which imho's huge pile of BS. The alleged "copycat" games were more popular due to the improvisations and they gave what gamers wanted - exactly the same thing Guitar Hero does to their Guitar Freak series. I rest my case.
actually boyo, kids got a point. i love gnr as much as the next guy, and while slash is no hack, hes not up there with the claptons and bb kings. seriously.
Yeah, but his comparison isn't fair. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Slash is a great guitarist, but even I'll say he's over-rated because of the Guitar Hero games, etc. The other two are better, I'm not arguing that. I was just saying that Slash was there, on the list. No harm, no foul.
I dressed up as Slash for celebrity day in school. I'll break it down for you. 3% said to me, "Holy shit, it's fucking Slash!" 97% said, "It's that guy from Guitar Hero!"
QFT. Not that I would know half of the musicians they listen to today. Of course I can just proclaim that music today is crap, and my generation's music was superior. Just like my father said to me, and his father said to him.
so let me get this straight. they're suing a company for a product that they licensed to have their name put on? i don't see this going anywhere.
And actually, Activision is saying that the reason that Gibson is sueing is because they are pissed of that GH will no longer be using Gibson branded items on their games.
Margin of error. You forgot that 1% of people that said, "Hey John, why are you dressed as a tranny in a top hat?"
