290 resin TF protos online! Guide to viewing them via Japanese Patent Office

It seemed like there wasn't really one central place for information on the Japanese patent office protos that are showing up. Apparently almost everything from Transmetal II's up through the current line is on there. I've written a guide to using the site here:

    http://www.allspark.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3423

I'd repost it directly on TFW but I'm probably going to be updating it and changing things around for a while, and it would be cumbersome to do that on both boards.

    So, anyway, enjoy!

Great info. I was actually looking into doing just this this morning. This saves me a lot of effort.

So... no other "Classics" figures other than Astrotrain then? Thats odd... I wonder why a wave 2 figure would be the only one listed... or am I just missing something here?

    They could be Patent pending?

Either that or we haven't found the right code for them.

Three Cheers for the Japan Patent Office! :thumbs2:  :rock  :dj

My question is why? Is there a need to patent neocron and others that probably wont be released?

    Intellectual Property Rights

It's their idea. They made it. No upstart toy company would be claiming rights to the design.

Pretty much the same reason G1 Jetfire doesn't get produced because it is a Valkyrie mold owned by another company.

Why am I explaining this? It is called the Patent Office afterall.

Thanks for all your help Might Gaine... Lord knows I was lost trying to get the thing to work...

I noticed something peculiar though... As far as ALT/BT goes, it seems there aren't any listings for Prowl and Skids... In fact none after Windcharger/Overdrive... And I've been using the comprehensive list that's going on at the Allspark... :huh

Smokescreen was also missing from the list as well... And there are definitely none for the remolds so far for the numbers that have been searched...

Wonder if it was simply missed or if there was a reason why they're not listed...

Same with the Titaniums... Or it could be that Titaniums are definitely a Hasbro only release???

And Primus is missing, too. Strange, eh? Either they're not patented, or they're just much harder to find like Magmatron and the Mega SCFs were. Hmm...

Smokescreen was a redesign of Silverstreak. Silverstreak is up there.

It's worth noting that Phazer discovered new patents are posted on Mondays so more might show up soon.

There used to be a much smaller listing of these on the HOC site a few years back (which is gone now, so I guess that makes it besides the point). It was a handy resource, but lacked indepth instructions on how to look up more than Transformers. My thanks to Might Gaine for doing this and being so detailed to boot!

I'm having a complete blast with this, that's for sure. :)

I reckon this source might dry up really quick. If major companies discover that the patent office is letting their information out all over the www. When it was somthing physical like "sure you can have a photo of the 2009 Chevy Impalla, just send a self adressed stamped evelope to the Patent office and expect a reply withing 7 months" but if it's up there instantaniously it's gonna affect long lead intos, PR and marketing opps.

    Infosaur:

I don't think it will 'dry up'. The Patent Office has been
online for quite some time; we Transformers fans just
hadn't figured out we could use it this way.
I really doubt anybody's marketing will be damaged anyway, since not too many people are actually nerdy enough to be prowling the web for patents...:)
