Myttns, you have no idea what you're signature is doing to me......
I think it over simplifies things a bit.
The people who absolutely will not under any way shape or form accept any change to anything seems like a tiny tiny minority.
I think a more common thing is people that are hard to win over. People that really like something so they can't see how what they enjoy can be improved. But if you offer up change that actually improves something then they can be won over. It seems like we see this every time a new Transformers cartoon series comes out. You get a few teaser designs and people don't want the change, but once you throw on story, characters and the bits that make a cartoon they change their mind and say the new series is okay.
With the vast majority of people I think it's that people really like some changes and don't like others. So while I've found mostly just disappointment from the live action films and none of the characters are on my favorite list I really enjoyed Transformers Prime and Knock Out has a place on my favorite characters list.
Fandoms like this are just extremely conservative.
To be honest, again, these movies have been my "G1." I got an Energon Arcee and Energon Inferno as a child, and never liked them. When the first movie came out, is when I started to lean toward the franchise.
I just watched the new Robocop and was suprised to find I liked it more than I expected. I mean it still wasn't a great film, and the guy playing Murphy was acting robotic long before he got blew up, but on the whole it was a far better effort than I thought it would be when I was slating it in the thread here months back during production. At the very least I intend to watch it several more times, which for me is high honour as I rarely watch anything new more than once these days.
Aw, but I was enjoying the entertainment. It's like watching a car crash telly show right up until it inevitably gets cancelled.
But yeah, some new people come here with a lot of abrasive edges. Some of them wise up and smooth themselves out, some get the rough edges knocked off of them by others until they fit better, and some just get binned because they just don't want to stop being so spiky.
Fandoms be like.......
Anyways, that 'toxic goop' was of alien origin, as per the ORIGINAL TMNT source material. If anything it's the '80's cartoon that raped Turtles So technically the Turtles were always kinda aliens... IF Bay did stick to that script (which if I believe has been refuted since?) Then it can be considered a new way of honoring TMNT's original premise. I'm not the TF movies biggest fan, but I don't hate them either. It's one more universe. But I do like what I consider to be subtle nods to TF's origins; Ironhide being Black, Devastator being closer to his build robo colours, for instance. Not directly referencing G1 doesn't mean it's not respectful to TF lore and history as a whole. Same with TMNT. The original cartoon is not all that exists, nor is it the only form of reference material.
People don't have to like every aspect of a franchise, but I do wish some folk could calm down. My only gripe with Turtles so far is Megan Fox...but that's probably another thread
Yeah it can be fun sometimes, and sometimes even grab-the-popcorn-and-record-it-for-future-laughs kind of fun.. But the last few days it really kicked up a notch with pure hate-posts and more insults and than proper language. And seeing he does know to make good posts (see the thing above about each their own favorite tf series), and post fairly often (50+ posts on his first day or something), it would be a shame to loose an active and potential promising board member to improper conduct.. But hey, its the movie forum on the interwebs, what did you expect?
Michael Bay took my childhood, bent it over a table and raped it good then he exploded all over its face.
People still think the Ninja Turtles are aliens in the new movie, huh? Or that Bay's directing it?
People are stupid. This thread is terrible. Why does it exist. This isn't even movie related.
His name could be attached to costume design or something and they'd still blame Bay lol
This guy knows what's up.
This gentleman is amazingly intelligent.
You speak the truth my friend.
You are digging yourself into a deeper hole with dumb comments like this.
I could say "I only flame posters who use bad grammar and attack other users. They don't deserve to live.", but none of us get to define what others are allowed to like or what opinions they hold (so long as they stay within the rules), and hyperbolic stuff like this, and getting bent out of shape because someone doesn't like a movie you do in the first place, does not make you come off positively.
Nearly every reinvention of the brand brings new generations of fans into the franchise. Beast Wars did it, Armada did it, Prime did it, hell, even G2 did it. The movies, granted, have brought more attention to the brand than it's had in a good long time (which isn't to say the brand was moribund before the movies came around, not by a long shot), but in the grand scheme of things, the movies are just another chapter in a long and ongoing history of the brand.
It's pointless to say "this is going to be YOUR version of the character" for people who jumped on at a certain point, because there's so many versions of the same character, and exploring the history and multitude of stories in the brand (as you yourself have done to some extent) can lead to finding an incarnation of a character you really connect with, regardless of when it was made.
For a lot of people, they get attached to the characters they started with, or grew up with (though even then, since the beginning of the brand there have been multiple versions of the same character existing at the same time, take Grimlock, for example), but at the same time, fans (myself included) can go back and find they really like something that came before or after their "formative" years.
Im not even a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I like it when people on here get so mad over a simple conversation. Its a thread that I made to share humorous videos about Michal Bay. Don't like it? Don't read it then .
I don't know how many times I have to say this, but the Bayverse is the reason I am here right now at this website. He is the reason I am into Transformers. Granted, for my young age, I am an old fashioned type of guy. I admire the 80's genera in all types of entertainment compared to todays. Not saying one is better than the other, but my personal opinion. That said, I am no where near a Bay hater...but the movies could improve. I do think this new movie will be better than the last trilogy though. Either way, the point of this thread (for all the people who find threads SO IMPORTANT), is to share humorous videos about Michal Bay pissing off fans of different franchises.
