I've said this before, but in case anyone from Marvel's marketing is reading...

Remember those dancing flowers from the 80's that would move and respond to rhythm? Put a Groot skin on one of those and you'll have a license to print money.

You're welcome, and please cut me a percentage. :)

$160 million in it's first weekend. The budget was $170 million.

I'm hooked on a feeling this is indeed the surprise hit of the summer as far as box office goes (it already was quality wise).

I really loved that part near the end where
Star-Lord challenged the film's big bad to an impromptu dance-off to "ooh child" as a distraction

Yeah, those couple minutes definitely played on some tropes for laughs, namely
the hero distracting the villain by doing something ridiculous and the hero replacing something the villain wants with an identical replica and the villain doesn't bother to check.

I was thinking exactly this when I saw that. Therefore, I'm entitled to a percentage of your percentage. :)

IMO, GotG is much more deserving of the praise it's receiving for its opening-weekend BO performance than AoE for breaking the 1B mark (based on the quality of the product).

Saw it today. It was fantastic, on par with and perhaps even surpassing THE AVENGERS.

This film is meant to kick off Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and thus sets up a new segment of that universe with new settings, new characters and only a faint connection to the events on Earth. Which works well in its favour, because the film flowers into its own unique form, which is a take and tribute on the space adventures of the 1980s - notably, STAR WARS and BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS come to mind; the soundtrack, comprised of 80s songs, adds to the retro ambiance. But it's also a Marvel Comics film, which means there's going to be loads of humor and references; and there's enough of those to make the film a great laugh as well as a great adventure.

Each character in the film is unique and performed well; the character development is fairly basic but that's okay because they fit well into the fast-moving plot and the actors make the roles their own. Even Bradley Cooper and Batista, whom I had doubts about their being cast, bring pathos and charm to their roles: Cooper is a great voice actor for Rocket Raccoon, and Batista makes his character both fearsome and freakish (He took acting classes to make sure he gave a good performance, and his commitment shows).

I have no complaints about this film. Simply put, it makes for a great start to Phase 2, and I can't wait to see the sequel! More Guardians!

Yes they are. That's exactly why I ordered it the other day. What an awesome soundtrack.

That part was so clever and hilarious. Chris Pratt played the scene so well.
It's like they made the dance mode in Star Wars Kinect awesome. I also loved the line before they kill Ronan: "You said it yourself, bitch. We're the Guardians of the Galaxy."

I think the funniest moments for me were the Jackson Pollock painting line, Star-lord's dancing and 80's references, Rocket's obsession with stealing prosthetics for a laugh, Groot in general, and Drax's inability to understand metaphors. I was also dying when Rocket stood up when they finally made part of a plan (12% to be exact). "Look I'm standing up too. We're all standing up.. bunch of jackasses."

I'll finally be seeing this movie tommorow, I haven't had the chance to do so all weekend because of stuff involving the internet.

Great to know everyone is loving this, I know I'll have a great time. :D

That dance could have failed so badly but the way it was played out and the charisma of Chris Pratt made me laugh and it did fit the mood of the movie. The comedy worked to much better then Ironman 3 which fell flat for me. Thor 2 had a lot of comedy but it was not irksome besides Jane's interns. This movie made the comedy work no matter how goofy because that was the tone of the movie.

My only problem is how I'm going to see it. No one in my family would want to see this.

I just got back from seeing it, and I really loved it. The way it was shot and paced like an episode of a television show.

Also, am I the only one who noticed Lloyd Kaufman?

The entire crowd went "Huh?" after the end credits scene when I saw it. Priceless.
