Anyone else feel like the dinobots involvement in AOE was ridiculous? When the trailers first came out I was excited that they would finally make it into the movie but when I saw it I was disappointed.. Who else feels this way?
I mean, I wasn't expecting them to be involved until the third act. And they weren't until then. Was anyone expecting them to show up before then? Besides, they simply set up the Dinobots. Both Ian Bryce and Lorenzo di Bonaventura have expressed interest in doing much more with them in TF5 and so on.
I felt they should have shown up around the middle of the film - having Optimus potentially try and convince them to break-out when in the spaceship Prison could have given them some character development and explained why they were reluctant to fight (Similar to the legendary warriors in jail in Kung Fu Panda 2) If they had their backstory properly explained and were given actual character development and dialogue and given them a robot fight scene highlighting each then I would have been happy with the 20 minutes screen time they got. We don't have confirmation of them returning. The original plan was to have their backstory explained in AOE with them appearing fully in TF5 - however that may have changed given they were forced into AOE.
The dinobots were confirmed to return. We just don't know how they will come back or where they went.
Bay and co. would be incredibly stupid to not include the Dinobots in TF5. They should give them voices, actual characterization, and have them fight in robot mode for once. Do those things, and the Dinobots will be justified.
I think the producer Lorenzo said in a interview that aoe was a introduction for the Dinobots and that they'll be back for 5th and possibly 6th.
After all the dinobot hype, all the cardboard cutouts at Wal Mart, Toys R Us, and the theater, and Grimlock toys up that wazoo it would have been nice to have them longer than 15 minutes.
Yeah, every little thing leading up to AoE was Dinobots, Dinobots, Dinobots -- they were the whole damn reason I even went to see the film -- then you finally see the movie it's a full 2 and a half hours until they show up, and of course they don't talk or get explained or even named or do much besides provide a ride for Optimus and basically feel like an afterthought. And saying "it's just a set up for the sequels" is just rubbing salt in the wound. Surprise! You need to buy another inflated movie ticket to (maybe) see what we promised last time (and hope we don't pull the same trick again)! Bah.
People at least be happy that we got Dinobots and that they survived, geez they'll be back for the sequel.
I didn't expect them to be in anything more than the last act, since Optimus' line about "we need a new army" was in the trailers. And it didn't make much sense for them to acquire an overpowered Dino-army halfway through the film. I just expected their backstory to be better developed.
Link? I agree - especially considering it would open up the question of 'where did they go' and 'what did they do after AOE' if they didn't return. I really do hope they come back so they can fix the issues that AOE had - I just feel that they might just have the same treatment again if they do return.
It would be awesome if Galvatron somehow created (or found) some Predacons, so the Dinobots have a reason to return!
