So my business sent me to Rotterdam for a week. At first I was bumbed to leave my family and all, especially for a work trip, but once I landed, I really liked it here. This city is pretty insane. I am staying in this cutting edge apartment building new construction apartment. It's really cool. The city itself is really instead sting and has an interesting mix of architecture, with the old, communist block style housing and cutting edge architure. The people have also been fantastic here. The knowledge here is amazing and refreshing. I pretty much did what I always do on business, I have hit the local pub, and starting BSing with the regulars at the bar. So far, I got a free world cup holland jersey, and world cup dress thing for my wife, a tour of Rotterdam by a local, and a tour coming up on Thursday of Amsterdam. Not mentioning the free alcohol I have been drinking. (even though I have been buying rounds back myself). But I gotta say, for people that never have been, or are only thinking of going to Amsterdam, check out Rotterdam as well. This is an awesome place. Now I am waiting for Netherlands vs. Argentina! Go Netherlands. I hope they win, so I could see what it is really like to party in Europe during the world cup. My liver may die, but at least it will be fun. Btw, is it bad that I have consumed more alcohol and coffee, then food since I have been here?
I do software, and we partnered with a company who does econometrics and data modeling, which Rotterdam is a leader in. So I gotta design the tool and discuss the future iteration of the software with their company. Pretty interesting stuff.
Always nice to see people visit other places than Amsterdam I assume you've already seen the beautiful brand new train station: The Erasmus bridge (aka the Swan) And the in-construction Markthal (market hall) Hope you enjoy your stay! If we win (and we will ) that won't be a problem. This was during the last game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-Q-dPMmMtw (celebrations start at 2:45)
Oh hey, this week's actually one of the few I'm not in either Rotterdam or Amsterdam, I'm usually in Rotterdam a lot. Looks like you're escaping my wrath, for now. Enjoy your stay! If you're going to watch the match tomorrow I'd suggest going to either Biergarten or Museumpark - both are outside, so if it's raining these might not be the best suggestions, otherwise you'll have a hell of a time.
ah Rotterdam, today's modern city is built from the ruins and ashes of the one the Luftwaffe bombed to destruction during world war II.
Yup, I saw these, I am a block or so away from Central Station staying at the Calyso building. Just haven't been to Market hall yet. But I went to that huge needle. Couldn't go all the way to the top, but was half way up there.
I've been to Paris like 10 years ago. I was too young to really enjoy it....it was the first time I ever left my country. I hadn't even been to America before I've been to France.
I went to Paris last year, was a pretty good place. A little overrated for my taste, but it was a very beautiful place.
