I saw it last night and while I'm not going to jump on to the hate wagon, I will say that the bottom dropped out during the second act and made the whole damn thing pretty boring for me as a result. The beginning and end were okay, but not strong enough to make up for all of the deadwood (just like Iron Man 2). Now, I love me some cheese and I'm no stranger to liking "bad" movies. But being not-so-good AND boring? I can't let that slide.
I thought it was well done. Finally seeing GL flying through space was like seeing Spidey swinging through New York. 26% on Rotten Tomatoes my ass.
Might finally give it a shot tonight. I heard that it's best to NOT see it in 3D. Is there merit to that? Is the non-3D version the superior one to watch?
From what I hear, yeah. I saw it in 2D because one of my friends at the theater told me that even though the 3d effects are good, the glasses just make it way too dark. After seeing how dark Oa looks in 2D, I can see how it would be pretty dim in a 3D show.
I wouldn't call 2D superior; just less annoying. The 3D version looks like someone literally pasted Ryan Reynolds' face on a CG body.
Yeah, the 3D was not impressive at all. Obviously done in post. The CGI parts looked fine, but anything live action was bleh. There were a lot of over the shoulder shots during dialog where they tried to make it look like the shoulder was close and the other person was further away. That was about it.
Agreed. I thought the second half moved a little too fast, but everything else was pretty much spot on and overall the acting was better than i thought it would be with Mark Strong deserving of an Oscar for playing Sinestro, he absolutely nailed it. Even as a fan of the comics I was hesitant because of the all the negative reviews, but i was more than satisfied and happy that i saw it on the big screen.
A director's cut? Oooh. Now, I'm interested again. I was seriously underwhelmed by what I saw on screen. But, now I have hope again!
The only critics I listen to are died hard GL fans. Most say it bad, so with being said I will wait for redbox.
I'm a long-time Green Lantern fan, and I really enjoyed the movie. Going to see it a second time tomorrow. About the only real complaint I have is that it needed more ring-slinging action from Hal. More lantern constructs. Otherwise, I thought it was a fun and generally faithful adaption of the comics.
Quick follow-up to the last video I posted: YouTube - Hi, I'm a Marvel...and I'm a DC: Green Lantern Vs. The Critics (Part 2)‏
"FOR THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! I KNOOOW RYAN REYNOLDS, I AAAAAAAAAAAM RYAN REYNOLDS WRAAARRGH!" I never LOL'D so hard watching those videos since Deadpool and Green Lantern's showdown to see who Ryan Reynols was going to stay with.
i saw it for 5 dollars in a small family theater, it's pretty good, but it wasn't nearly as good as the recent marvel movies. there were some parts that seemed like they were taken directly out of thor... and Shield. wtf? I was just waiting for Samuel L Jackson to come and say "Hey you, Join shield!" it's like dc's copying off marvel now... lol
Want to preface this by saying I have been a pretty big Green Lantern fan and have been for many years. But I have fallen out of DC as of late. I enjoyed the movie way more than I thought I would. It was just fine and I really don't get all the hate. I definitely see it suffering from Daredevil syndrome though. Props to Hiraga for keeping the faith. Fun flick, somewhat faithful to the comics, awesome geek out part during the credits, and hoping for a director's cut Blu-Ray.
Just saw it tonight and I liked it. I thought they lingered on the romance a bit too long as it was pretty well a moot point cause you know, he already slept with her. I wish Hollywood would stop trying to shoe in romance where there clearly isnt any.... I really felt like the Time on earth was boring, but the time on Oa was fun and interesting. GL really lends itself to space fights...
The only issues with the movie I had was A) Hector Hammond. The acting with that character was just completely fucking horrid. His constant girlscreams of anguish just made me cringe with embarrassment. And B) the pacing. Things would start happening, then we'd cut to a scene with nothing happening at all. Hopefully, if there is a sequel, we'll see less earth and more GLC and space stuff, so it isn't so flat in random areas. Other than that, I didn't think I would like it much, what with what I heard and all. But I was pleasantly surprised with it.
Look like the sequel is dead....65% drop from last week......now deadpool is gonna be really bard sell now..
No and no. Warner Bros. has recently said that despite the disappointing results at the box office, they still have plans to move forward with a sequel. And how would Deadpool's success be affected by Green Lantern's? Don't just jump to conclusions. Good for Warner Bros. too. If there's one thing this movie really did with me, it left me wanting more.
