It's not a great mold, but a great repaint can improve a subpar mold. As well as create a new character and stimulate some imagination. Universe Frostbite took the problematic Transmetal 2 Jawbreaker mold and created the new Decepticon character Frostbite. Very few "Arctic" themed Transformers, so Frostbite really opens up the imagination for Wintry adventures of the Transformers. The off-white(tinged in the gray/blue) direction helps show off sculpted details of the mold better than Jawbreaker's dark brown. The purple and slightly greenish blue add some "cool/cold" and "evil" touch. While the spinning saw blade gimmick contributes to making the mold 'awkward', it still is a cool detail of the beast mode and a great weapon for robot mode, and here the blue/purple gradient give it a new "edge".

I think the Jawbreaker mold partly suffers like a paper's "first draft", it needed a few more revisions or "drafts" to really get just right. I don't think the original colors are "bad", but I think Universe
Frostbite's deco is a step up.

how was FOC Grimlock a disappointment? I think he's fantastic

 

I found them just too neon, too bland... They've been shelfwarming at my TrU even at 20% off, if you're up north, I'm surprised that they didn't get them yet.

If you're in Canada, the biggest let down is Red Wing, that I really wanted but no way to get it at decent price, so I took a Starscream and did my own... and it looks better than an authentic...

And well, since this IS a thread about repaints... nothing to say that this isn't a repaint..    

As it states on the packaging of 99% of the figures, blue is Frenzy, red is Rumble... not hard to remember and those that can't get over the cartoon mistake, then call it whatever you want at home, but still, the figure's name is what's on the package. 

 

If frenzy is blue and rumble is red than that means the main one used was frenzy and rumble barely appeared

the originals were fine if a bit bland, but the redeco's just SING.
i can't even pick a favorite, from Speedbreaker's Hot Rod-esque flames to Wildride's rally stripes and logos to Mach Alert's contrasting blue and white...

That's fine if you think that but there have been ALOT of instances of Shockblast being incorrectly called Shockwave on these boards. Just an fyi

 

This takes the cake for me, and it's not even close.

 

Beast Machines Primal Prime was awesome.

Energon Galvatron seemed like the color that mold should have been from the start.

 

Same with many others too, and what my pet peeve about it, is I don't care what someone wants to believe or call their figures in their personal lives and view, but when we talk about a figure being in stock, available, being sold, coming up, etc., using the WRONG name of the official name of the product can lead to confusion and cause issues.

The figure has a catalog number and name on the packaging, and people should respect that... if I'd be looking for stock or info about Soundwave and someone uses Soundblaster because to THEM, it's what they want it to be, it's an issue, as I wouldn't get the correct information as that is another figure completely.

This applies to ALL repaints. I wouldn't call StarScream as ThunderCracker and if in the cartoon, if such a mistake was done now and then, (I've yet to see any cartoon without a continuity error) I take it for what it is... an error and move on.

When Frenzy is officially released, people looking for it will have trouble knowing where to find it if people continue this name-flipping thing as how can they know which one is being mentioned as Rumble could get re-issued or be "old" stock by then.

Time and place for everything, and if someone absolutely wants to stick to their views, then, stick to them in the fiction threads.
In the toys and news sections, the figure's name should be status quo.

If it's that important to anyone that an official Frenzy be red, then just wait for it and don't buy the red Rumble.

I'm a big fan of the Siege Seeker mold in general and had no qualms whatsoever about buying every one. Red Wing though is my absolute favorite. He was a complete unknown to me prior to this figure, but he's definitely one of the best looking bots to come out of Siege.

Technically, Banzaitron was the repaint.
