Last summer they found some new cancer spots somewhere in him, he'd been in a hospital this week and passed at 9:24 AM. He was 77. Still processing it. But I thought I'd share a story. Few years back my mother and stepfather were having their proper wedding after a courthouse marriage a year prior. It was at Graceland, in the middle of May, so it was pretty hot and sticky. Nevertheless our big group of about 30-40 people were assembled for our group portrait outside the church, and we took it... Then out of the church comes Grunkle Leonard, "hey? What're you guys doing out here?" Cue a massive round of "AWWWWWWWW" from the family but also an explosion of gut busting laughter. We were crying from laughing so hard at dear old Grunkle Leonard, his memory wasn't what it used to be. I think he was just in the bathroom inside the church. I'm glad he's not suffering anymore. I thought we had more time with him but I knew the gravity of his condition. Late to the photo, but gone too soon. Or something poignant like that.
