    I use Google Sketchup, it's pretty straight forward and has a free version.

    Definitely sketchup mate. Not only is it awesome, but there's plenty of us using it. Solving any problems/answering any questions you might have would be a lot easier!

    Have a good mess around. There's loads of great tutorials and plugins to look into when you've got a handle on things. Look up google sketchup for dummies (I think it is?), it's a good series of videos that'll help you along the way.
