Oddly this just makes me think of those boss coffee figures from like a decade ago
They really should've done a silver Optimus before a gold one. At least that would be from an iconic episode and they can market it as such.
I'm perfectly fine with these and other non-transforming Transformers existing but the price is pretty awful for its size and what it does (nothing). Considering you could pay a few more dollars for a fully transforming deluxe or much less for a Core Class (which to be fair can have their own share of issues).
I'm not familiar with these figures or why they cost so much. Is the quality control flawless for every figure? Way more paint apps than usual?
They were sold out in a matter of minutes?
How many did they make, 2 of each?
Ahh yes like the mini "decoys" we got in 1985! Good call but id try to do only a handful of figures that matched those characters.
Yeh bruh. Unfortunately its not labeled golden lagoon, like it really should be. IMO
This episode "The Golden Lagoon" in 1985 is VERY iconic. Silver Optimus? Only episode I can think of like that is "Cosmic Rust", in 1987. Not nearly as iconic to be silver but ill bite. Anything else im possibly missing?
Sorry, didn't even recall there was an episode called The Golden Lagoon though I'm sure I've seen it. Will check it out on Pulse for a refresh. I thought Golden Lagoon was just the naming for these variants but turns out it was just for the thread...
As for the silver Optimus I was referencing, I'm sure you've seen The Return of Optimus Prime Part 2.
Megs and Prime look like Butter Sculptures.
I see these suckers shelf-warming like crazy at all the Target Stores I go to.
so if people want them they shouldn't have issues getting them.
Optimus gets yellow eyes. Finally!
Why do people feel the need to tell people they shouldn't like something?
"There's a MP figure if you want cartoon accurate..." Yeah, because they're even remotely the same type of product. Absolutely ridiculous.
Yeah you totally should! The Golden Lagoon is one of my favorite episodes when I was a kid. Beachcomber finds a vat of golden liquid, basically super energon, that effects are short lived. It gives him extra strength & he TRIES to keep it a secret bc its in this beautiful oasis/paradise & Beachcomber's into peace. I believe it was Starscream or Thrust or something that followed the bots & got in it on Decepticons side. And of course leaked the info, Its got more plot but ill leave it to you to watch lol. About the Silver Optimus Prime, I thought it was Cosmic Rust that got on Prime, Megatron, the boys and cons. And Prime went Silver at the end to keep the stuff off him to win the battle & cure everyone. This is it yes?
I checked it out and I did like the Disney Princess characterization they gave Beachcomber though I wish he had more of a pivotal role. Also featured some of my favorites like Perceptor and Powerglide which was a plus. The ending had triumphant music but it was actually pretty somber with Beachcomber saying "We won..." while looking at the destroyed forest. I wish it would've ended on a more bittersweet song with a reassuring line from Optimus but the episode REALLY prioritized action over Beachcomber having an arc or saving the day.
The Cosmic Rust episode featured a more shiny or chrome Megatron after using Perceptor's Corrostop. Though Super7 once again didn't make a reference to that when they released chrome Megatron.
I feel dirty needing to provide the link for this episode as literally every G1 fan should be aware of or seen it but The Return of Optimus Prime Part 2 is when Optimus... returns following his death in the '86 movie. We move from discussing the Cosmic Rust disease to a Hate Plague disease where Optimus is coated in a metal that blocks heat and radiation protecting him from being infected by the Plague. This coating turns him silver.
You can't get more iconic than Optimus' triumphant return so Super7's next Optimus variant, and you know they're just looking for their next one, should be silver.
Weird these would see out fast, while previous Target exclusives in various paintjobs still shelfwarm. My target has BOTH the dead Optimus and the shiny ones just lying around.
Do you think they knew they'd spend the next handful of decades releasing Golden Lagoon recolors when they wrote the episode because they sure do get mileage out of it
What surprises me is how much mileage they're getting out of these little action-master ripoffs.
I really like their packaging art. Other than that I'd rather get the RED series if I were going to collect these kinds of guys. Similar price and more articulated, but I already have a bunch of these types of figures from years past so even though I like them, no need for them.
I get the appeal... for certain franchises. For franchises where there's nostalgia for this kind of 5 POA 3 3/4 inch figure, I get it. In the beginning, it made a lot of sense.
But for Transformers? Power Rangers? Any other line where the toys your nostalgic for genuinely had more detail, articulation, and features? It kinda blows my mind.
The closest they are to Transformers toys are Action Masters and they're worse and less accurate than those so... yeah.
I don't need articulation to be modern. The figures are chonky, the designs simplistic, and smashing them together is fun. Pew pew.
They really need to release a Beachcomber Reaction figure.
Then we could get 3 versions out of it... Normal, Golden hand, fully golden. I'd buy all 3.
Or, could we get an Ultimates version of Beachcomber with swap out golden hand, golden seeker weapons and a whole bunch of animals.
I have finite resources so I don't bother with these color variants. I do live in hope that we get a reaction Thrust and Beachcomber this way, but it seems doubtful.
Reaction fans can come hang out in the appreciation thread, away from the persecution of the walmart brigade: The Super7 Transformers ReAction Appreciation Thread
