Put my new painting station to work and sprayed a bunch of things gold. Is there any clear coat that works with Rust-Oleum? I think I might buy Pyramidas again...

I haven't had any luck topcoating rustoleum. Even their own gloss destroys it and it gets all nasty.

How does that color match up to G1 Dinobots gold? Specifically, most of Snarl, and Sludge and Slag's toes?

Man, that gold looks slick. It really would pop with a good clear coat.

i use the rustoleum metallics a lot as of late. they are by far the best spraying paints around and i never bother top coating. once the paint cures it is nice and sturdy.

such an even flow with great coverage.

How is the feel of that paint when it cures? Tacky at all?

That's vacumetal, right? There's no way to do that at home as far as I know. You can see how this gold compares to the chrome gold on the megazord's chest. It's better than nothing.

I wanted to put a gloss on it but my experiment made it fade a bit.

Yeah, I was pleased with it and an aluminum I've used before. This gold did scrape a bit so I do want to coat it.

Nope, just a very little bit more matte to the touch than I like.

i always give it 3 light coats of metallic and flow coat. then i just call it a day. i think a clear would dull it.

This is WHOLLY speculative on my part, but the same glosscoat that people here have reported working on the Liquid Chrome pens might do the trick - IIRC it's Alclad Gloss Clearcoat. It's the only thing that doesn't cause the Liquid Chrome finish to dull, according to those who've worked with it.

    Might be worth a shot.

The best clear coat I've heard of for not dulling metallics is alclad, like Hooper said. It's meant to go over their chrome. People have used it over molotow chrome and found that, of all the clear coats out there, it dulls it the least. Considering just how delicate molotow is, I'd suspect that a clear coat that's gentle to it is going to be gentle to anything.
