Not for a long while now. There's new "some assembly required" figures by Megahouse but the Action Toys line hasn't seen anything since MR-11 and MR-12 in 2021 - despite having teased Supercar Robo/Turbo as far back as 2015.
It’s been about a year and a half since the last release, but still not long enough to call the line dead based on Action Toys previous release history. Their silence on it is very annoying though.
So Rod Drill IS a completed figure, sweet. Looks really great. I don’t think I’m in a huge rush to get one since it’s not different enough from the AT figure to truly excite me, but I’ll get one eventually and I look forward to seeing what’s next. One thing I like better on this one is the hip skirts. AT has theirs as one big chunk that has to be removed entirely if you want any decent hip articulation. I also like how this has an overall look of a modern Hasbro Transformer, only refined.
If they DO release a DX Eagle Robo, I just hope they re-release DX Bike Robo, because I sold mine off last year as I'd given up on them ever releasing a new Leader One.
I feel the same. I also like that he has the toy head so people can display him as the Gobot character. Honestly the Machine Build line is looking like the Generations-style Gobots I’ve been wanting for years. I hope it goes on for a while.
Yeah, I am not expecting anything more from Action Toys at this point. I can live without DX Eagle Robo and rather have Supercar Robo at this point. The Megahouse figures look very promising and it would be nice to get all/most of the 600 series like this.
Leader-1 is the last "hero of the 80s" i need for my display so I would also like one that sort of resembles the animation.
I was gonna post on a poll of 'what Robot animes you wanna see on the next SRW' made by someone who made it for fun but it turns out that the poll has ended prematurely sadly. You guys can check this out here: https://twitter.com/180223/status/1613094096402534401 For those not in the know, SRW is a series of RPG-style video games involving mecha anime and Machine Robo ain't no stranger to that realm:
If someone on Shapeways could make a replacement head, I wonder if this guy could be a good Man O War substitute. I know the scale is a bit off. Thoughts? https://tfsource.com/3rd-party-figures/blaze-envoy-battleship-deformation-mecha-hobby-telepa/
I had that one. He was always fun since the ball joints for his shoulder transformation allowed for more poses compared to the average 80's transforming toy.
Back with another dive into the Japanese Google oceans as I found a peculiar piece of media that has NEVER been touched on - another Masami Obari Machine Robo ROC artwork has been found. This one has Rom Stol with Baikanfu, Blue Jet and Rod Drill as muses behind him: This caught wind for Obari on Twitter: https://twitter.com/G1_BARI/status/1614143755258593281 Tho he stated '自分、当時こんなの描いてたのか‥ 完全に忘れてたわ!'/ I didn't know I was drawing this at the time. I'd completely forgotten about it! Nice to know I managed to jog a little bit of the noggin. Also interesting is that it has a lineart here: This pile of images I've dug was from an auction site: ag659 マシンロボ クロノスの大逆襲 グッズ 雑誌... - ヤフオク! Sadly, the auction was from 2021 so chances of getting this is slim but this was a neat thing I found. I never got them sadly. Also, Leina Stol is channeling some MJ Thriller energy there:
The rarest thing in that lot may be the envelope holding the telephone card. Not a terribly exciting thing, but often missing from telephone cards auctions.
Or paying by the minute on cheap cell phones? I remember when I had to pay PER text message in the early wireless days.
