    I am considering two figures:

    1. Fansproject Assaulter

    or

    2. Perfect effect PE-12 Assault Force X

    which do you recommend most.

Neither. I recommend Hegemon or Maketoys Giant. You'll thank me later.

if you will prefer the toy deco pe-12 over the toon style you cant go wrong with those little guys. i have the toon version, but i liked it so much i ordered the toy version as well. i usually don't double up on characters like that.

assaulter is also impressive. you cant really go wrong with either of those. its a tough call.

the pe-12 bots are TINY. you know that right? tiny, but awesome.

My budget is under $100 so giant is out of the question ( as is Hercules) and so is Hegemon.

Assaulter just makes it budget wise. yes i know PE 12 is small watched reviews for them.

    Thanks for your recommendations.

This is going to sound sarcastic, but really, Super Alloy Wheelie was pretty cool for 60 bucks. Looks good with the masterpieces.

...and if you are planning for either Assaulter or Assault force...you are RIGHT there and could afford a Hegemon I'd bet. Just saying. But it's your money, your call.

If you are stuck between those 2 though, go Assault Force X. Just be WARNED..they're tiny as shit. They almost make scouts look like deluxes they're THAT small.

He was better in Headmasters than the original.

The Super Alloy Wheelie is an okay figure. Better as a display piece than for play. Poseability isn't that great, doesn't peg together well.

I think PE Scouting Force/Assault force fills collection holes better, being one of the few 1984 Decepticons that doesn't have a Classics representation otherwise.

Broadside sits amongst those nebulous 1986+ characters, where nobody can really keep straight who showed up when and whatever.

On the other hand, Assaulter is way more figure for the money. Like, 5x the size and 20x the mass. Absolute beast of a figure.

But then SFX/AFX gives you three fun little dudes armed to the freakin' teeth, that are just as fun to play around with in their own right.

that wheelie is too big for me. ill wait to see what igear's looks like.

you should probably get assaulter. fp stuff always goes bananas once its out of stock so if you like the look of the big guy go grab em before he jumps in price. you wont be dissapointed.

i just have a special place in my heart for those little reflector bots. :)  they are fun!

here's a pic of assaulter with other 3p guys and season 3 cast for what its worth.

For the price? Assaulter, definitely. PE Reflector is nice but Assaulter is just a bigger package for what he costs. I also think he's better than Hegemon. Hegemon is great in robot mode but his transformation is fiddly as all hell and I needed to sand down a bunch of parts just to get him to fit perfectly (and comfortably) in alt mode. Assaulter's transformations are smooth and he has two alt modes.

Although I'm inclined to agree that Assaulter is the way to go here, I actually prefer the PE Reflector set. But Assaulter is massive and will definitely be harder to pick up later, so you can always get Assaulter now, while you still can, and the other little guys next time you can afford it!

    (Oh and I wouldn't exactly call Assaulter's transformations SMOOTH! :) )

    this makes sense^.

another option is grindrod, or maybe the first arialbot. not sure how much those arialbots are nowadays, silverbolt is up 3rd and he's $129 though.

tough choice, pe-11/12 were must haves, but for a first 3rd party purchase, it might give you a too small for your money impression

I agree. My first 3rd party purchase was the PE Frumbles and they made me feel like that. Afterwards I was really hesitant to make another 3rd party purchase.

I don't either of the two(yet) but from those I recommend Assaulter. From something that I own I'd recommend the Protector armor. If memory serves I've seen him used on here for under 100.

i think my first 3P purchase was the pe-11 reflector toon style. i wasn't dissapointed in the size because i knew that going into getting them, but it did strike me how awesome they were compared to the legends size retail bots.

That's a really tough choice. A kinda expensive set of three tiny figures, or a kinda affordable (for a third party transformer) huge/heavy triple changer.
My favorite would have to be the PE set, but for a first dip in the 3rd party pool, I'd suggest Assaulter. Like someone else said, he'll skyrocket in price on the aftermarket, while PE products tend be available for a long time.

If i might be so bold as to offer you a third alternative. While i have assaulter and have considered the little guys in the past, Id like to suggest the MMC seekers as a potential first. I got my screecher and must say that it is one of the nicest figures ive ever got. The attention to detail on it is amazing and it just plain looks awesome.

Took it as an impulse, never regretted it. After that id have to go with assaulter, very nice figure as well.

PE 12 for sure. Look Assaulter is awesome but those little PE figs have so much heart and character you're going to start wondering what Hasbros been doing the last few years. You'll start carrying them around because they're so portable, easy to stand and pose and are so clever with part stowage, you'll actually like having all the accessories instead of wondering what to do with them (looking at you PP-05)
