I don't know if anyone have ever seen or heard of one of Japanese G1 Transformer series

It's called, Transformers: Super-God Masterforce

It's unique in the way that the primary transformers in the series are humans who gain the ability to don armor which can transform them into a piece which they can combine with their vehicles know as transtectors to transform into Robot forms.

The protagonist of the series, is called Ginrai, (who bear remarkable resemblence to Optimus Prime) who can combine with his trailer to become Super Ginrai, and later gained a drone partner, God Bomber who can combine with him to form

"God Ginrai"

And as you can see, TFA Optimus Prime upgraded with his Jet pack bears great resemblence to the form of God Ginrai, the wings of his jet are the same of God Ginrai's God wings, so are the stabilizer on his arms with God Ginrai's gauntlets.

I just felt I should point this point. Masterforce was like the very first TF series I saw, and its toys was the very first toys I ever owned ^^

 

Yes this was discovered when the episode aired.

 

And he's not back, so much as certain design elements of his are.

I just think of him as an homage to Galaxy convoy! SUPER MODE!! from Transformers Galaxy Force - I know its incorrect but I just cant stop yelling SUPER MODE when I see it  

 

I thought the jetpack resembled a mix of skyfire's boosters and cybertron OP's super mode.

 

Actually, the jetpack itself, looked like the one Optimus borrowed in G1. But yeah, the wings and gauntlets were 100% God Ginrai. Just a shame they didn't give him a silver breast plate.

 

I actually thought it was just a really boring design. And a wasted opportunity. Pretty much just Optimus with wings.

Now there's supposed to be a toy based on this, and my feeling is that there's already quite a few Animated Prime toys. This isn't different or interesting enough to warrant a new toy. They should give him a Ginrai helmet and body armour in the next episode, otherwise it's not going to look all that different from the regular Optimus.

But the whole affair felt shoehorned into the episode as it was.

No offense, but why would you think a bunch of us forum dwellers wouldn't have heard of TF Masterforce or God Ginrai?

Both wings and Masterforce makes anything better.

But yeah, we all knew about this as soon as the episode aired  

 

Dude, ANYTHING with God Ginrai makes it better. I noticed it when it aired and ahd fangasms because I like God Ginrai A LOT. Check out my name.

 

I don't blame the OP for assuming that people might be unfamiliar with Masterforce - after all, I think I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of people who recognised Cancer in the image Wyatt posted on his blog way back. The amount of people calling him "some ninja kid" certainly outweighed the guys who knew who he was.

You really like God Ginrai don't you?  

Caught a few episodes. Interesting character, but he doesn't look like a team player. Kind of reminds me at times of Robin from Teen Titans. The Robin in the CN version... is a bit similar. Somehow those Japanese shows made prevalent the idea of one on one combat between the MVPs etc. Interesting at times, but sometimes it takes away from the other characters in the team.

The animation of masterforce was kind of good though. Reminded me a bit of Gundam Zeta in terms of action.
