I think the problem with Scioli’s art is that he spends hours trying to emulate what took Kirby only minutes to do. In other words, he’s trying too hard. Just a guess.
Eh. I gave up after issue 2 when the series was just getting senseless. Nothing means anything and it wastes most potential it could give. Shame really. Anyone else still reading?
I wish the artist would stop trying to look All Retro and try to develop his own style. This looks like Kindergardeners drew and wrote this.
Yeah it's good. I'm enjoying this book, too, and I'm definitely among the majority of the world that hasn't really given two craps about GoBots since decades ago. It's a fascinating premise, and I like that they've at least attempted here to make these characters more than just dime store Transformers. I guess it's not for fans still holding out for a true revival, but if this even has a tiny bit of success, it may lead to someone doing more for GoBots in the future.
Yeah. And I say this saying I loved the style of his GI Joe transformers story. This feels like a worse version of that. He should just try and make better works. I do love the colour palates though. That’s the one thing I appreciate in this comic. Yeah that’s the thing. It’s a good premise but I just don’t find that it’s executed well. Like they’re all just jumping to stuff really quickly and they haven’t explained why the gobots do certain things. Like in issue 2 where screwhead lost his master. It shows he cared for his life in some way but they never explain what it meant or even why he’s joining the renegades. And he didn’t even have his own name.
That really just seems to be Scioli's style (it happened a lot in TFGIJoe). Also, it's a 5-issue limited series. I'm sure it could be and has been done better. If anything, it reads like a brief "history" of sorts. A celebration of GoBots. I'm betting that Rock Lords will show up in the final issue. I hope it leads to something more for the franchise in the future.
Indeed. Why not just employ kids to draw and write this comic, or just trace over existing (Gobots) comics and make them look like @arse? It's easy, just use any available smartphone and in a few minutes...voila!
I don't mind the art, personally. I actually love the commitment to the style, even the washed out color palette. Not always my thing, but in this instance it could actually work for me... ... if I resonated with the story at all. It doesn't seem to reference the cartoon. It doesn't seem to reference the toys, other than their designs. It's not like IDW Transformers where it's at least a tangential link back to the G1 cartoons and/or Marvel comics in some sense. Instead, it's just... I don't even know? Some weird new terrifying continuity where humans invented Go Bots and they serve human interests rather than having their own mythology and backstories, but have ominously become self-aware? I mean, I know the Challenge of the Go Bots was cheesy and silly as hell. And I know they can't go the Machine Robo route instead either for several reasons. But if the goal is to hearken back to our nostalgia, then I want that cheese and characterization fully embraced. Not... whatever this is. This is not the Go Bots for me, personally. The art style is actually charming for me. But not the story and characterization. I also wish they had gone with the cartoon designs rather than the toy designs personally, but that's just me.
This has been more fun a read than expected. I\'m glad his work is only mini-series, as it\'s best in small doses for something different and wonderfully nostalgic.
You mean, like colonic-irrigation? The bi-product certainly has the same colour and smell to the artwork...
Hey ease it man. He’s just sharing his thoughts. Don’t need to bash his taste. I dunno. I feel like it’d be better if they just set a world that I care about really well and then leaving me to want more. He’s just kinda giving cool imagery but not really giving depth. That’s my problem.
GoBots needs a cartoon come back. Given how Very bad things have be come for Transformers. May as well go back to GoBots.
