Released in 2007, to cash in on the hype surrounding the release of the Transformers live action film, Video Brinquedo released Robos Gladiadores, or Gladiformers as it's known outside of Brazil. The story follows our main Hot Rod/ Optimus Prime like protagonist Julius Drive, who was forcefully sold into slavery and is now forced to fight against other robots in The Centrais Gladiatorial Arena. Run by the Supremobots, who care little for rules and regulations, instead flourish by placing bets on the robots to see which one will mercifully kill the other, and one such robot (Magnum Tutor) plans to do just that to Julius Drive! The movie came out in the US under Video Brinquedo USA (here credited under TOY LAND Video) and consists of video game esq graphics, exposition galore, sub par fight scenes that lack little weight due to poor sound editing, and an into song provided by the Brazilian power/progressive metal band Agra. That being said however, it has enough world building, characters, and an actual amount of effort (which is rare for anything coming out of Video Brinquedo) to make it worth talking about. It was even successful enough in Brazil to warrant a sequel! While it is based on the Transformers and is clearly a mockbuster it is just original enough, and flooded with content that I feel that it fully deserves it's own thread were fans (even if your a fan unironically) can discuss the franchise. Even if you hate this film, (and nobody can blame you, it's not great) feel free to discuss the film here! Keep it fairly civil, and may the God Bots bless you!
I made a bootleg thread and It was moved to here, and the movie thread is exclusively for the Micheal Bay films. Since this could be seen as a KO film and is technically a third party product I put it here.
It's alright. To be honest though, I've never heard of Gladiformers...so this might be an interesting read if others know about it and discuss it.
Thanks for taking a look at my forum and moving it to where it belongs. I had no idea there was a Movies and Television section. I only knew of the Movie discussion one. Thanks again!
