I was just watching a review of RID Crazybolt, and thought to myself, "gee, a lot of transformers have been done dirty by their gimmicks, haven't they?"
For the sake of this discussion, a "gimmick-former" is any transformer who's design is based around a central gimmick, and prime candidates should be compromised by theirs, hence the need to be remade. To qualify, the toy should be basis of the character, not vice versa, exempting Cyberverse figures or poorly done versions of workable designs. Basically, who should get the universe Hot Shot treatment? What features would you like?
Here are some of my pics from various generations as an example

BW Retrax: I mean, look at the guy. He's a killbug. His gimmick was to hug people to death. Could you imagine an articulated pillbug altomode? I rest my case

Armada Blurr: On paper it's a cool design, if the kibble was worked out it could be a nice aoe crosshairs trenchcoat, but the actual toy is kinda just a brick. I'd like to see this design get redone with a certain fair to it, or some creative transformation

Armada Scavenger: With such a beefy alt mode, it's a shame the bot is statue. I'd love to see the heft and chunk of this design be movable.

RID Crazybolt: Alas, poor crazybolt. A beast robot mode crippled by an incumbered nature. I loved his eccentricity, design, and voice, but his toy is so ass. It makes the POTP Predacons look like MP Primal.
Want:

• Articulated robot mode
• Show accurate headsculpt
• Fireblast effect ?

I wanted a Voyager sized Underbite for my RiD 2015 shelf, articulated off course.

Also, I would like pretenders with articulated shells. Stow the robot in the torso and let the legs move! Or just make the shell 5mm post armor.

Definitely Retrax. I adore his design, he's a beautifully grotesque and sickly colored demon, but he's just terrible. You can't even handle him without risk of him clamping shut on your fingers because the springs are so sensitive. I wouldn't even mind the gimmick and unusable arms if it just worked better.

 

I've been saying it for years:

PRETENDERS.

Just give us shells that are as articulated as a Marvel Legend but lack a torso crunch.
Have the torso be able to hinge open so it can house a mini-con sized Pretender robot inside it.
Charge $20 each.
Boom.
Done.

...excluding Hoist. Reissue Hoist. Everyone always forgets he's a perfectly good figure even for today despite being a shining star among the bricks.

Pretenders would be a amazing. The design of them is still top notch (especially the Classic Pretenders). Integrating them as quasi-target masters into Prime Wars, with Primes inside of them, was pretty ingenious of Hasbro, but were really such a tease. Considering that by the end of Siege, we'll have done pretty much everything, they're very much worth revisiting.

We're getting Star Convoy... sorta. But not really. What we're actually getting is a very G1 Toy-stylized 35th anniversary celebration remold of PotP Leader Optimus who in Vehicle (and Cab Robot) mode is the updated toy, but his combined mode with his trailer just so happens to look like Star Convoy. Good enough for now, but a legitimate new Star Convoy mold, one of Prime's best designs, would be absolutely amazing.

I'd like to see a Power Master Optimus Prime, but more slavish to the original design and gimmick than the well intentioned, but flawed, TR release.

 

The Pretenders, remaining Headmasters, Targetmasters and Powermasters.

 

As others have said, we need Pretneder updates. I also would love updates for the Rotor Force and the Laser Rods.

 

Breastmasters. But with the actual Breastmasters this time.

 

These two would be perfect fits for Siege. They literally exist as armor for Optimus and nothing else. Time for these two lads to finally get the figures they so rightly deserve.

Bendimus Prime Deluxe as well. One of my favorites of the era and deserving of far more memories than he seems to inspire. One can see a lot of his influence in the new Armada Prime revealed at the Takara booth last week too.

But yeah, so many great concepts in Armada hindered by the bick-former design philosophy.

I love Pretenders but I'd rather see the inner robots updated. They were really compromised by the gimmick. Also I wish the POTP Pretenders had been Titanmasters instead of Primemasters.

Imagine if you got a Titanmaster deluxe of Cloudburst maybe a retool of Triggerhappy. The head turns into a Titanmaster exactly like the Cloudburst Primemaster but with Cloudburst's face on it's back instead of the glyph.

The Titanmaster can pilot the spacecraft mold AND fit in the shell. The shell transforms into a Targetmaster weapon for the larger robot.

The Primemaster gimmick was the second worse gimmick in the franchise after planet keys.

 

They would be so great as Weaponizers. Maybe Wing Saber would have CW ports.
