Was reading up on all the fun, cool news going on.

Rumor came out yesterday that said Lorenzo DiBenadvasdfou, or whatever, and director Stephen Sommers were fired from the film during post-production. Same for Don Murphy, apparently. Rumor is, that the movie sucked. Badly. That the "test screenings" were horrible, that the studio wasn't impressed, and that Hasbro bigwigs were even a little "...eh?".

Today, Lorenzo came out and stated that no one was fired. That the test-screenings are fine, that everyone is pleased with the movie, and that it's just getting better and better.

But he refused to provide any type of evidence or proof regarding those apparent "well-received test-screenings".

The rumor circulating now is that Sommers, the director, wants to be the next Michael Bay for the GI Joe movies, or at least, wants to get a reputation like Michael Bay (who went from "shitty director who blows stuff up" to "always has hot chicks in his movies and blows shit up"). But that his inflating ego clashed with studio heads, and that someone else was brought in to completely recut the movie in hopes of salvaging something.

    So.

With all that information out there now for the public to digest ... just how bad is this movie going to be?

    :lol

It's not looking good. This summers Dragonball? Something that is good in one form and should stay in that one form.

Aintitcool made mention that Hasbro is worried about the negative impact on the GI Joe brand from the movie.

Didn't you already make a thread about how bad the film is going to be just a few months back?

But yeah, it's going to be bad.

I'd like to know how any though GI-Joe would be anything but cornballs topped with cheese? It's freakin GI-Joe. I don't think it will be bad, just that there isn't much you can do with the RAH concept.

I think were are talking worse than the DIC years of the series...

If you haven't seen them, consider yourself lucky... What has been seen, cannot be unseen...

look im a gijoe collector and even i think this movie is going to suck, i really hope for the best but from what ive seen the movie looks horrible. the power suits or whatever are a major let down, this is gijoe not iron man. i feel like they made some cheesy action movie and just slapped the name gijoe on it. i will have to wait untill i see it but it doesnt look good. although i dont have big expectations out of this film, i will go and check it out and take it for what it is but im sure ROTF will blow it out the water.

At this point, I think it's going to be worth seeing to find out just how horrible it is.

Dude that what GI-Joe was and is. Some cheesy action movie. Even Resolute which was fairly good, doubled down on the cheese factor.

I thought Dragonball Evolution and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was this year's Dragonball? I suppose it doesn't hurt to add a third :p .

Only when it hits DVD I'l watch it for the cheesy factor.

This. Too bad the ending was kinda rushed.

Please make a poll with no options that are better than "bad". Just to be accurate.

I've got nothing against a cheesy movie, if it's done right it can be a great time at the movies. Look at Transformers. Can Joe fans not take a look at RAH fiction and realize that is 75% cheese and 75% cornball. RAH is taking a US military SOCOM brigade, dressing them like the villiage people, and pitting them against every corn/cheeseball villian concept from cartoons, comics, and movie serials from the 30's/40's. What in the chester-fuck are going to do with that when you try and turn it into a movie? Answer=Rise of Cobra.

There's no way it's going to be a good flick. I love cheesy action, but Rise of Cobra looks to take in every cliche, terrorist-driven action flick and slap on the Gi-Joe branding. The trailer makes the movie look like it revolves around those accelerator suits (does it?) and they have nothing to do with GI-Joe that I can recall. Destro looks lame, the action and effects look dated, and I'll see it for the lolz.

Dragonball was a different thing entirely. GI Joe (the original toon) was a more realistic military-based property. Sure it was dumbed down for kids, but the brand should easily translate to the screen with a little more mature action. Instead, I think the film looks more like a cartoon than the original, what with the bullet-time monkey-mech suits and green goop dissolving the Eiffle tower.

Dragonball was a goofy sci-fi fighting show, that despite its many shortcomings actually made a decent film reboot. Yes it was corny and much of the acting was over the top, but look at the source material.

Wow, I've rambled far too much about a movie I haven't even seen. I think I'd rather watch The Rock and pretend that Sean Connery is Duke and Nick Cage is Shipwreck.

When the Cobra Commander toy was revealed, that ended my interest in the movie completely. In fact, all of the designs for what we've seen of Cobra reek of suck.

I guess the question now is will it be unbearably awful or hilariously awful?
