Even as a kid I found the combination of the movie and cartoon a little weird. Not enough to dislike it, but it was odd to me.

Yeah, the feeling I got from my classmates at the time it came out was that GBII was fine but not as good as the first.

A couple of my friends were of the opinion that the movie was good up until the very end; for some reason they were OK with everything else (including the walking Statue of Liberty), but seeing the painting changed to show the GBs and Oscar "ruined" the movie for them...I guess that scene crossed the "suspension of disbelief" line for them o_O

Me, I enjoy it just fine. It has some great moments, and I love Egon.
Egon: "My parents didn't believe in toys."
Ray: "You never even had a Slinky?"
Egon: "We had part of a Slinky. But I straightened it."

What makes it even more impressive is that a lot of the dialogue is improvised. I believe that whole scene was improvised. Along with one of my other favorite Egon moments

Peter: "This reminds me of the time you tried to drill a hole in your head. You remember that?"
Egon: "That would have worked if you hadn't stopped me."

At least, I think that scene was improvised...feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I always liked GBII the same as the first film. It's pretty much more of the same. Sure it's not T2 in comparison in the terms of how it evolves the franchise from the first film, but then how many sequels actually are? Interestingly as a kid, I actually liked the second movie more than the first (I was eight I believe when it was released). A lot of my friends liked it too, but I do know a few of them took issue with them adding some "kiddie" aspects from the cartoon. That said I don't know a single person that actually disliked the film because of it. They just liked it less than the first. Anymore I like them both equally for different reasons.

I don’t know that people hated it, but it definitely didn’t become an iconic classic like the original since it was a rehash. I think it’s a so bad it’s good movie, though less bad and more meh. It was compared to TMNT 2 Secret of the Ooze but that’s a little generous since Secret of the Ooze is more memorable if you ask me, and definitely didn’t rehash the first movie’s plot like GB2 did.

I never hated Ghostbusters 2. I wasn't old enough to see the first in theaters, but I had seen it on TV a few times and enjoyed it (the cartoon helped). So my dad took me to go see #2 in the theater.

As an adult, I still don't hate it. I still love the court scene, the ghost train, the Statue of Liberty scenes, and the final battle. Overall, it's similar, but still different from #1.

Irrelevant sidenote: I never had GB1 NES game, but I owned and played the crap out of the GB2...but could only finish it with Game Genie.

I enjoy GB2 as well. My only gripe is that Vigo kind of looks goofy.

I know the question wasn't directed at me, but personally, no. Turning your enemy's weapon against them is an effective strategy.

I'm not sure how else could humans could redistribute/weaponize slime without those tank/hose things. Especially with the quantity they had.
It's not like they could fill up thousands of balloons and throw them like water balloons.

Well, you could, but that would be very time-consuming. Also, now I can't unsee the slime canons as bukake guns...

It's good because it's good. There are bad movies that are entertainingly incompetent, like The Room, or Ed Wood movies. To the extent that GB 2 is an entertaining movie, it is because of their deliberate efforts to make it so. It's not some blatantly awful movie that cluelessly transcended its badness.

It's a good/okay movie that gets a bit of flak for not living up to a great movie. Speaking for some of us, we love those characters, loved seeing them again, and if some of the situations were similar to the first movie, that wasn't a problem. We were entertained, we got to spend some more time in that world, and that was enough.

Aside from the look, I always thought that Vigo wasn't nearly as interesting a villain.

My take on GB2 is that it's "fine". I loved the courtroom scene. Peter Macnicol's character has some funny parts. Even Vigo is (perhaps unintentionally) funny due to his sheer ridiculousness.

I really need to rewatch the first 2 (and then get the remastered game on the Switch). I don’t remember any of this stuff about Shandor or the Shandor building or a mine or any of that. But it sounds cool that it’s all tying in together.

Also- I’m in the camp that liked part 2, but not as much as part 1.
