Watched this movie again with one of my cousin's kids - she loved it. I've slowly had to admit I'm not the target demo on this. Most of the kids I've interacted with do seem to like it.

Yeah. Bill Murray had to be "professional" too when he was on late night talk shows talking about the movie as well.

Yeah the budget was rather tame for a blockbuster, and the movie didn't make as much as it should've. Personally don't have an opinion about Feig's directing, never seen another of his films.

    Still have hope <3

While I disagree with pretty much all of this (my daughters and I loved the movie), I do agree that of all the cameos, Bill Murray was hardest to watch. I really did not like him in this. I don't know if that was intentional or not.

Dan Aykroyd Blames Director Paul Feig for ‘Ghostbusters’ Box Office Failure

Basically Dan says Feig did some really costly reshoots which didn't help things at the box office. He does say he still loves the movie, cast, and likes Feig. But I really posted this here not for the BTS stuff, but because he's more or less confirming a sequel won't be made due to the film underperforming (which is relevant to the thread).

I wonder how the film would've been without the reshoots or like with half of the budget. Or $100 million. The movie grossed $230 mil or so. I dunno. I'm no director or writer. I can come up with a story outline, but I can't do much more than that :lol

Maybe he was trying to Harrison Ford himself? Come back only to get killed? :lol  He never wanted to make another one anyway.

Oh no, the Collider turbo-nerd idiots who get off hearing their own completely useless opinions on a YouTube channel have... shocker... some opinions about Dan Aykroyd's opinions. Must be serious. What ever will he do!? :rolleyes2

I don't think Sony knew who their targeted demographic was.

I hated the movie, but I've got to say it was a jerk move on Akroyd's part to totally trash Feig like that. It's one thing to say "I don't think he was the right fit," but he went on to say "I don't think we'll be seeing him anywhere near this studio any time soon." It's probably the truth, and I don't think he was a good fit either, but I also didn't defend him/the movie for a year and a half and then throw him under the bus.

You also weren't legally required to, and he and Pascal didn't stab your friend (Reitman) in the back over it.

Well, regardless, we now know how Dan Akroyd really feels about the film. It makes me wonder if the other stars also felt the same, but made the smarter decision of not saying anything.

True. I honestly think the way Feig and Pascal handled it was just a pure shit show to begin with. I can only hope in a decade or two, this movie just disappears into oblivion.

    Bad movie.

Why did Dan Aykroyd have to bring it up again?

Honestly I've seen a massive downturn in interest for the original Ghostbusters since this movie.

The thing about Dan Akroyd is that Ghostbusters is pretty much his life. I mean not only does he love the franchise, the guy is passionate about ghost hunting and paranormal research to the point where he views it as a legitimate branch of science.

Old and New Ghostbusters May Unite in Next Movie

I have faith that they could tastefully handle Harold being gone. I'm sure that in the best case scenario, there's some meta lesson such a movie could have to say about old and new, bringing people together, etc.

Ten years of technological advances from now, I would give the thumbs up to pulling a Tarkin for Harold if they want the young team (with similar de-aging effects for Bill, Ernie, and Dan if they're still around). :lol

On another topic, I've been kinda lukewarm towards potshots and stuff that sucked, though, so I can't say I'm looking forward to the inevitable future story that takes shots at ATC. Like how JJ Abrams considered having Jar-Jar's skeleton in TFA. I certainly don't love Jar-Jar, but it really would've taken me out of it, and would've just come off as cheap and kinda childish. So in the future if we get a Lego movie or a comic that takes a diss at Kristen Wiig or something, listen closely, you'll hear me groaning! :lol

Don't forget that the concept is his idea, that he wrote the treatment and the first draft of the movie by himself (which did get a major rewrite(s) into what it is now, but still, that first draft is his) and then sold it to the studio.
