    ^ The sequel, lol.

    Annnnnnyway.

Finally saw this movie! I liked it well enough.

Granted, it wasn't GREAT, but then again neither was Ghostbusters II. Also, the only version I've seen of the reboot is the recently released Extended Version, so I have no idea what I just saw that others didn't.

And, sure, it was pretty campy and goofy and, yeah, pretty ******ed at several points. But that's been a hallmark of EVERY Ghostbusters-related anything ever, so I don't really fault it for that. Could've been better, sure...but w/e. It was pretty fun here and there, too.

It certainly didn't deserve the absolute EXCORIATING ridiculousness of the internet, that's for sure.

Anyway, the cameos were nice, such as they were. Which is to say, fairly minimal but FAR more extensive than I'd expected. Especially in the last few minutes! Although, I do still wish Harold Ramis had made a cameo too as a ghost at some point, lol. Someday!

I haven't seen them in too much but even Leslie Jones and Melissa McCarthy were tolerable, dare I say even GOOD in their roles. And the movie definitely deserves points for not just completely forgetting about the black Ghostbuster at the climax, ffs.

I would however agree that the original practical effects/animation were pretty much VASTLY superior to the mid-level CGI-overdose of this movie, but it is what is. Still not a dealbreaker.

And Hemsworth was obviously game and down for some fun which was pretty entertaining. He plays a decent ditzy hunk, fwiw.

Like I said, it's whatever. Honestly, it's just nice that SOMEONE finally got SOME kind of Ghostbusters movie off the ground again. About time! Not expecting the sequel teased in the post-credits scene any time soon, but it IS good to know someone tried, the movie broke even, and there's still SOME kind of momentum and encouragement there for a better stab at the franchise later on down the line someday.

Definitely looking forward to that...in whatever form it may take.

Oh, and it didn't hurt that I kinda have a weird crush on Kristen Wiig and Holtzmann, lol.

Saw the new Ghostbusters film twice in theaters and boy was it great! :rock

    I’m still hoping for a 2nd and 3rd one! :D

Loved Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in this. They brought on the laughs. :lol

Also loved the cameos from the original Ghostbusters and that in the end, the mayor gives them financial support, they get THE firehouse as their new headquarters and that the city's buildings are lit up to say “I Love GB”. :thumb

Hope that they still receive that same support and admiration that the originals didn’t get at the beginning of Ghostbusters II.

Which moderator/supporter ABH1979 closed in July.

Here what he/she wrote in the last post:

Okay, I think we all need a break from this.

No one is even discussing the movie anymore, so no big loss there.

Will re-open later (or never, who knows...)

Yeah, and by the time I finally saw the movie tonight and was ready to REALLY discuss it, the thread had already been locked for months because the internet is dumb.

Hence, my opening statement in the OP, lol.

Anyway, I still love the originals to this day but I REALLLLLY loved them as a kid back when they first came out! If I had a young kid today, especially a young girl, I have NO DOUBT that she would enjoy the HELL out of this movie and we'd have gone to the movie in cosplay together with HER brand new and MY vintage proton packs, particle beam guns, and ghost traps and would've had a WONDERFUL time at the movies.

So it's all good where it counts, as far as I'm concerned!

Yeah I love the film. It's a bit weak in story. But the characters are terrific. Erin goes from uptight to badass. Abby is sweet and idealistic. Patty is level headed. Holtzmann is Holtzmann and by God I love her to death. I get genuinely sad thinking about the unlikelihood that a sequel will get made because I love Holtzmann so damn much. What a lovable, crazy beam of light.

Kevin is fun. Rowan is weak, but I think it would've helped if they had gone into the fact that really, Rowan could've been a Ghostbuster himself since he was just like the main four, ostracized and ridiculed. Movie should've fleshed him out as more of the evil counterpart that he is. But he was still okay. The ghosts were really cool. I'm a sucker for neon lights and Tron-esque lighting so I lapped it up. That tall skinny circus host ghost at the end was awesome.

Oh and the action was great! So grateful for advances in technology since we get legit fight scenes at the end. And of course, we got Holtzmanned baby! My friend said she felt confused after Holtz licked her guns. Can't say I was. :D

Movie definitely needs some fleshing out. Needs more of a driving plot. Erin's arc is great but the movie as a whole needs more umph. Like I said, maybe fleshing out Rowan and showing that the Ghostbusters making the best out of their outcast status is the way to go: make that the main message of the movie. Because by the end, Ghost Girl is a compliment for Erin. And don't be like Rowan, letting hate consume you or something like that.

I just kept laughing the entire time but I certainly thought some stuf was forced, and recognized some jokes were weak. It's not like every joke in every movie ever lands perfectly.

I had a blast. It's not the best, but it's definitely something I bought as soon as it came out and I'm so glad I picked for my birthday movie.

I was wondering what my sig was doing there!

I've made my feelings on this remake pretty clear in the other thread. I'll try to be positive this go-round. I thought the leads themselves were wisely chosen. They are all extremely talented... in other things.

Melissa McCarthy was amazing in Mike and Molly.
Kristen Wiig is a great actress. She was fantastic in The Martain
Leslie Jones was in one of my favorite SNL skits from recent times.
Kate McKinnon does a wicked Hillary impression.

They're 4 HUGELY talented women that were just wasted on this film... Oh well. I'm glad there are people out there that enjoyed this movie.

Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with this. The original Ghostbusters film is nothing like the 2016 reboot in any way, shape, or form.

Yeah it was fine- not good, but ok.

I was actually having an argument about this with a friend the other week. We where sharing a table at Thought Bubble (comic convention in Leeds), and he was going on about the movie destroying his childhood. I insisted it hasn't because he still has the original and now a bunch of kids get to enjoy this new one, he was having non of it.

Next day a little 5 year old girl walks past our table dressed as Kate Mcinnons character, adorable as hell. He turned to me and just said "ok I get it now" :lol

D'aww. See that's what makes all this craziness worthwhile if you ask me.

That's it man, honestly since my sisters came into the world (big age gap- they're twins who are 8, I'm a 29 year old mess), I can't bring myself to get angry by these type of things because more often than not they're into it. who am I to get angry over the new Power Rangers when these kids are hyped as shit over it after having no exposure to the past stuff, you know? :lol

No kidding. And it gives you something to talk about. You can always show them the original at a later time. But yeah, I heard a story from Halloween where these girls went as the new Ghostbusters and they got nothing but love, even though they were expecting heckling and all. That's the best takeaway from all this.

Okay, here's the deal: This thread will remain open, as long as it stays on the topic of the actual 2016 Ghostbusters movie.

We're not doing the whole Sony/Feig/Misogynist/SJW drama-fest again.

I closed the first thread -- I will gladly close the "sequel" if needed.

I got it from Redbox over the weekend. Thought it was decent. Not great but watchable enough. Loved Kate McKinnon's character.

Hey and Jones where my favourites, BUT- she was too zany I though. At no point did I believe she could make these crazy ghost fighting weapons because she was always so aloof.

Like, when Egon tells you he's made a ghost capturing device you believe it, because he was so deadpan and serious, if that makes sense?

But yeah I still enjoyed her in it. Wish she'd have gotten the characterisation they gave her at the end of the movie near the start or something, just to make her a little more relatable.

Saw it twice. It was decent enough. Holtzman was great. Hemsworth was funny. The film has some good bits, but a lot does fall flat. Not terrible, but not great either.

I felt like it was a half and half film. Half of the stuff I really loved and half of it just fell flat. So half of the characters I thought were great and the other half just didn't work for me. Half the jokes landed with a solid laugh and half of them got no laugh at all. Half the cameos were fun and half of them felt forced.

I really would mind getting another film with Holtzmann, Patty, and Kevin, but with the box office I don't think that is going to happen even with Sony being short on franchises.

I watched the movie recently, and honestly it was too bad. I'm not too sure that I'll be disappointed if we don't get a sequel, though.
