I lived in Hong Kong for more than 7+ years and it really bothers me the scenes in Hong Kong/Beijing makes absolutely no sense.
First, it takes more than a nights drive to get from Beijing to Hong Kong.
Secondly, the ruins where Hound and Bumblebee was protecting the humans. Land are like gold in Hong Kong, so it is impossible for place like that to happen in Hong Kong.
Thirdly, the mountains and waterfall where Prime release the dinobots. I know that's not filmed in Hong Kong. It doesn't make sense with the city's culture.

I know this is nitpicking but for someone that actually knows an area well, it kinda ruin the story.

I myself do find such things a bit nit-picky.

    He messed up America's geography.
Remember how Jetfire just walks out of the Smithsonian into a large open field of scraped planes?

When you say ruins, are you talking about the part that looked like Kowloon Walled City, or some other scene? I don't really remember any ruins.

Same as ROTF. The Smithsonian isn't located in the desert.

Nor is there a Mission City.

    Or Cybertron.

Don't take it personal; it's only fiction.

It's a SciFi movie, not documentary. Did the filming on spaceship really took place in a spaceship? Location accuracy means little.

I feel like people who actually know a thing or two about science probably hate it when movies like this and superhero movies defy and just get wrong their fields of research.

I thought the same thing! I know it's nitpicky, but if they're marketing to a Chinese audience, folks are going to spot this stuff.

They clearly keep bouncing between Kowloon side and Island side, and after a long running battle, end up "escaping" to a spot just a short distance from where they started out. Strafe and Bumblebee start out in Detroit-dressed-as-China (brown US-style building), zip across the harbour to Central (Bank of China), and then magically zip back to Kowloon. Plus, there's a glaring sequence where we see the human cast driving next to the harbour, and then immediately it shifts to a shot where they're clearly next to a tiny canal, and then back to the harbour again.

I also found it hilarious that the movie glosses over the fact that to get back to Hong Kong from the mainland, the Dinobots would have had to run straight through Shenzhen, a massive city of 7 million people. (Plus they'd have had to run a few hundred miles, since I'm pretty sure that natural stone arch is in Guilin, way the hell to the northwest.)

There are scads of other such errors. I don't count them against the movie, but I did get a good laugh from them. I try to be forgiving toward stuff like this; I know why they have to make compromises, and in most cases, it's pretty harmless.

Oh, Bay loves playing around like a kid who just takes a whole city, throws the pieces on the ground, and rebuilds it.

He did it with Chicago. The geography is all over the place. At one point they're on one side of the river, the next scene, the other, and that glass office building changes street locations at least 4 times.

And that one square where Sam,Carly and Bee crash the ship, is not in Chicago, but in Detroit.

It's a movie most movies aren't shot where they are supposed to be it's nothing new and if any one wants to apply any G1 logic to it for some reason they drove to India in the ruby mine episode and Spike's dad used to work there.

These locations were in a fictional movie with giant robots, I am sorry but it's a little ridiculous.
