"Unprecedented efforts" must mean Geoffrey's Toy Box. Yeah, okay, whatever.

The problem now is that the world is moving on. Good luck getting Hasbro back as a vendor anytime soon. There's a lot of catch-up to do when you're defaulting back to square one and everyone else, especially Walmart and Amazon, are 50 squares ahead of you.

FWIW, I took "unprecedented efforts" to mean "from the industry at large," not specifically by the TRU group. At most, Geoffrey's Toy Box would have been included in that assessment, but I don't think it was meant to be synonymous with it.

While I like 'Toys R Us' way better than the generic 'Tru Kids Brands', the fact it has 'TRU' right in the name is actually a bit clever and I hope they can ultimately regain the lost glory.

Keep Bain Capital as far away as possible though.

Keep Bain away, and come on back. Just make sure you put customers first and don't push any metric outside of that, and you might be successful. I admit, I miss working at TRU, I felt it very strongly this past Christmas season when I was working at Bestbuy and Hot Topic. It was too corporate, too sterile, and there wasn't a soul in them. When I worked at TRU, I was in a feeling of glory because I was helping parents fulfill their kids wishes and making someone happy at the end of the day. I want to do that again.

TRU: We want to order 50,000 units
Hasbro: Great to have you back!
TRU: Well that was easy . . .

The Location of the nearest TRU (former) Location to me still sits empty and rotting and it's approaching a year now since it closed.
It may have to be redeveloped into smaller units eventually. but IF TRU wants to reestablish itself it has a location sitting empty stilll waiting.

I do agree they didn't need to have the baby stuff in the shops and bikes and swings can go to special order status, They were doing OK until they shot themselves in the foot with a load of repeated bad decisions. Though I guess the whole move away from physical media in gaming will change that part of their business.

But it would be worth them starting up say the formally profitable stores and an online presence in the UK again I'd suggest. Though the problem you have with UK toy retail is everyone sells the exact same tat as each other.

Yeah, I mean, the payment terms would likely be very different, but don't for a second think Hasbro would turn down selling product.

The intelligent way to conduct business with this new iteration of TRU is payment when order is placed. Gone should be the days of payment 60/90/180 days after merchandise is received. TRU has lost all credibility and clout it was had as the place to go and buy toys. TRU needs Hasbro, but Hasbro needs TRU as well. There is no guarantee that even the best scenario will TRU return to a giant in the industry, this past year people learned to do without TRU and Christmas went on as normal. It is we collectors who miss TRU and yearn for the days of old. Buy truly how many collectors went an actively bought toys fro TRU, I am guessing that the few that went to TRU over the past 8-10 years went to cherry pick certain pieces or buy clearance across all collectible brands. Even if every collector went and made 75% of all there collectible purchases from this new TRU, it will not be enough to sustain a business. This new TRU is already beginning from such an uphill battle, that the chance for success is almost zero.

Hope they crash and burn. My wife and I had a baby registry with Babies R Us and we were going to get around $1000 in store credit back because of all the purchases off the registry yet didn't get a dime because of the bankruptcy that their shady business practices created.

Shady business practices? TRU was being held hostage by venture capitalists. It wasn't their fault that they went bankrupt a second time.

Yeah, I'll never understand this impulse to equate anyone who uses the TRU name from this point onward with the people who ran TRU into the ground (by which I definitely mean Bain, et al, not folks who worked for TRU back then under the impossible reality that Bain et al created)
