It's a bit of both. The toy had all grey hands and forearms. This has the forearms in purple, like the comics. The main difference is that the silver is more bluish due to the poor colour reproduction of US comics at the time.

He's much closer to how he looked in the UK comic which has superior colour technology.

I wonder how the stickers would look on the standard release of Galvatron..

Too many colours to produce cheaply.
Tampos and paint cost money, and it's far cheaper to print a mold in grey and purple and leave everything else to stickers, which they think fans will be okay with, since it's toy-accurate (IIRC, I never had a 1986 Galvatron).

    As always, blame Capitalism

Because it’s on the same unpaintable plastic sprue as the biceps. I guess both those parts had to be stronger to prevent breakage.

Technically shouldn’t this be named Galvatron II because of comic colors and the Creation Matrix?

yeah, that is just a total head scractcher.
yeah, overall, I think the RED on the OG toy was terrible, but at least the belt balanced the pillars, here it just kinda makes it look like KO having the only red on the pillars.

The glittery cannon is a nice touch though....

This was the closest time he was to "toy" colors in Marvel

not if you look at a previous page where it’s explained the crown piece is on the same mold sheet as the arms. Even not looking it’s not hard to figure out

In those latter Furman comics, the artist really didn't want to bother changing their anatomy studies to be more robot like. The realistic teeth, flesh hands and faces. Just always looked weird. It's bad when you're a kid and consciously think "well, I guess the artist couldn't be arsed to give it another go." I wouldn't have said it that way, but it describes how I felt.

I think it\'s really cool. Kinda missing the days back when leaders were $40 though.

It is pretty swish, the purple on the head doesn't even look bad.

Thanks for the clarification. This might be a dumb question but what is meant by “unpaintable plastic”? Does it mean the paint wouldn’t stick if the piece were to be painted?

Stickers seem pretty logical and appropriate for a “toy based deco”. IMHO.
