I never owned Fort Max, but I know from experience that Metroplex was a hollow, simplistic figure. What's the story with the retool?

I'd say it was just a bad decision to use Metroplex as a retool. The legs were simply gutted, making them useless aside from forming the retail catalog version of the base mode with the legs splayed out instead of vertical. The iconic tower is basically a small building, requiring Cerebro to complete it...and even then, it's half as tall as the original. And then the main ramps don't even fold down to the ground. Yeah, I can see why some people would like a second look at him.

Yeah, Max is, in a number of ways, a gutted version of Plex - he suffers from being a retool. That gun in the arm? Arm still opens, but it's empty now. The opening legs for base mode? No longer designed to be opened, you're just meant to lay the legs out flat. The joint to rotate the arm behind the body? Still there, but now serves no purpose; the arms just get laid out flat like the legs. Plus the aforementioned tiny tower made from Cerebros, and the arm ramps that, being reused from Plex's legs, have no way to hinge down to the ground.

As someone who owned Max first, then got Plex later, it was an eye-opening experience handling Plex - a ton of "oh, that's what that's for" moments.

That said, Fort Max is a ton of fun if don't care about the traditional alt mode. There are many fan modes out there that are just as fun as anything else. Or if you put all the bases together...

Star Convoy made it to Chicago. God knows what happens now. Do they put him in two week quarantine?

I had expected someone to step up and provide them, but since no one has, a few notes on my terrible translation from Figure King magazine. Just as a fair warning, while I've done translation work before, I do mostly "end phase", with the translations were largely done, mostly I'm smoothing it out, so I've always had the benefit of a native speaker taking a pass at it first and then working with them to refine it. So if something's off, well, you get what you pay for. ;)  (and should have hired real translators)

    Figure Mechanics:
    • We were right. The crest and the face are separate and change independently for the face swapping gimmick.
    • The chest seems to be a straight pop out and swivel

    Character details
    • Super Megatron is the "Great Emperor of Destruction". It also gives a quick recap of Galvatron to Super Megatron's story, and talks about how the choice to use Legends Galvatron seemed right for an "Evolution" transforming Super Megatron figure, as in fiction Dark Nova used Galvatrons body to create Super Megatron. The headline also calls him the greatest danger to Earth.
    • The head crest was redesigned to be more of a crest rather then simple layered S and M Letters from the original Battlestars for added detail.
    • After Super Megatron was defeated by the Triple Combination Attack, he was upgraded to Ultra Megatron, who has ten times the power of Star Convoy
    • Ultra Megatrons cannon is called the "Star Buster"
    • "Super Jet Mode" is a Gunjet (The original Battlestars description was a flying gun), a combination of laser gun and jet and is easily capable of Mach 10
    • "Ultra Tank Mode" boasts a powerful cannon and can fly as well.
    • Ultra Megatron Omega is the "Ultimate Life Form", unfortunately there's some translation fail here, I think it's meant to say that the face is a combination of the Alien influences and Megatrons of the multiverse, but I may be way off.

So... let me see if I'm getting "Ultra Megatron Giga"'s story right...

He's Megatron's "Ultimate form" from far in the future, which has been created from the Vok technology that originate from his previous Transmetal form (which is Encore Megatron Black Version), which was itself a result of his spark being exposed to Beast Wars Megatron during the events of Beast Wars, mixed in with Anglomosis Energy, which he was exposed to during thus far unseen events whilst in his Actionmaster body presumably after the end of JapG1 but prior to the events of tbe JapG2 stories. Super Megatron having been originally made by Dark Nova is probably also involved... because he's been retconned as a Vok now too and is, I guess, the reason he looks like Ultra Megatron.

    That's... convoluted.

The Angolmois is from his time as Galvatron, since as we know Angolmois is Unicron energy, and Galvatron was made by Unicron transforming Megatron. It's the reason why Turtler and Halfshell seek out Galvatron in the Selects manga, because he was directly enhanced by Unicron he's chock full of the stuff.

Is it? That makes more sense... I was confused by Ultra Megatron story's picture that accompanied the Angolmosis Energy explanation being a caped Actionmaster with a black aura, which would fall in the time between JapG1 and JapG2.

I suppose I'm thinking too hard about these stupid Legends comics.

All posers. You cannot deem to call yourself the "Ultimate Lifeform" until you can change your hand into a Nazi-eating Squirrel for shits and giggles:
