This is what most people seem to fail to grasp. Had these been mainline releases, they wouldn't have nearly as much accessories, potentially retooling, and paint apps as they do as TakaraTomy Mall exclusives. It's only through that way that these can exist and exist the way they do. These are premium releases, not something you can or should be able to get at Walmart for $20.

Personally, I agree. Based solely on these boards, it seems like there's a LOT of demand for Seacons among collectors.

But I also know that Hasbro has an entire department of people whose sole job is to calculate demand for new figures vs. the cost to produce them, and they presumably have the numbers to prove that it wouldn't be cost-effective for Hasbro to offer the Seacons themselves.

Keep in mind that most of the Siege Generations Selects figures (and, indeed, most of the exclusives anywhere) have VERY little remolding going on; usually there's just a new head and maybe a new paint job. These are relatively cheap to make and sell; you're just pouring a different color of plastic into the old molds.

Seacons have a LOT of new molding, to the point where you have to be familiar with the original molds to see any similarity at all. To make money back, Hasbro would either have to jack up the price or release them at mass-market retail as part of Siege/Earthrise, neither of which appeals to bean counters from a line-wide marketing perspective.

Either way it doesnt change how puzzled I am that Hasbro has no part in this.

It's also used in their banner images. Terrible idea for brand unification in my opinion, but I'm not versed in modern marketing.

They do though. They opted out of making any sort of compromise to fit these into a normal retail price point and instead are selling them directly from Takara with all parts, paint apps, and packaging.

 

its literally on the box for star convoy. also technically the lines do have different names between hasbro and takara, hasbros is generations selects (with generations being plural) and takaras is generation selects (with generation being singular)

 

Because the combiner gimmick isn’t what their focus is on. It’s the war for Cybertron trilogy. They’re not focusing on combiners anymore and this is isnt even Piranacon. Takara wanted to make something for their portion of their fandom. it’s a character from their cartoon they wanted to make. That’s who he is suppose to be!

Why wasn’t hasbro involved? Because they weren’t, simple as that. But they did offer to sell it as an import. They wanted to move to other line. That’s all. Not once did anyone say “we’re gonna make all the combiners so you can have everything!”
