SO, glad I am getting this. I owned the Japanese Beastwars God Neptune for a while an preferred that color scheme for the original G1 set. But the colors on this set look fantastic.

They are the owners of the license. Which puts them at the top of the totem pole.

So other than the chance they are the ‘God of the Franchise’ what makes WS’s statement a dismissible? :peoples:

Lots of complaints about price, and here I was thinking they were pretty reasonable given all the extras you are getting compared to the typical releases, not to mention he looks stunning.

Probably a bad time to mention I’ve preordered two of each...

G1 Piranacon awaits his updated form.

For starters, get a time machine...

Failing that, it looks like only one place has them all still up for preorder...

I really want this but I just emptied my wallet on MP Optimus, Unicron, 3 incoming MPs, Seige Jetfire, MP Beast Wars Megatron, and Walmart G1 reissues. I gotta tap out at those prices. Box set down the line? I'm down.

His thing is that he's literally so salty about people praising Takara that his personal mission on the board is to just talk shit whenever people praise Takara Tomy, because that's such a sin. Wouldn't give it much thought whenever he makes posts like that.

I mean, yeah. The reality is that before brand unification, Takara ABSOLUTELY went above and beyond what Hasbro did. That is an objective fact that your personal belief doesn't nullify. More paint, chrome parts on Classics, character choices...decisions made because Takara was focused more on the collector oriented market than the kids market. You personally might not have been a fan...like I'm not a big fan of the chrome on their Classics stuff, but at the end of the day it is undisputed fact that yes, more paint, stuff like Chrome, is absolutely more value for your buck.

That's why Takara was praised as much as they were. They went above and beyond, objective fact. Hell, I praise Takara for their effort to actually give us the full G1 combiners in Unite Warriors when there was uncertainty whether or not Hasbro was gonna do them. I love them for that. This combiner is another example that Takara can absolutely go above and beyond. This is an effort that Hasbro would never have done to this level. Gun modes for all the guys, all the accessories, all the paint...

Yeah dude, Takara is still absolutely praise worthy here.

Co-owners of the franchise. Neither Hasbro nor TakaraTomy are "on top". Both can and do greenlight projects totally aside from their partners across the pond, for their own local markets.

Man, in that case i wish they would flex on that fact a whole lot more than they actually do. cuz i mean, Transformers is nearly monopolized by Hasbro in that case. They handle nearly fucking everything outside of actual toy design.

I’m pretty sure hasbro owns the IP and licenses it to Takara and contracts them for design work, didn’t think they actually owned any part of the franchise other than maybe some of the figure molds and the Japan specific media possibly

I'm fairly certain there's some complicated wrangling between the two companies that put them on relatively equal footing. It might say one thing on paper, but they've got it worked out such that neither company is capable of pulling the rug out from the other.

How do you mean? Have you forgotten what thread you're in? The Seacons are purely a TT initiative. Hasbro is just importing. Masterpiece is also a TT initiative. Hasbro tends to concern itself more with the heavy IP management stuff: movies, TV, comics, etc.

If you're wanting TT to go back to producing anime series and such, I'm pretty sure that ship has sailed. The children's market in Japan is dwindling, which is why TT has shifted more solidly into the collector market for their own initiatives. They're content to let Hasbro do all the heavy lifting on the cartoon end. It's pretty low-yield for them.
