I feel like everyone is forgetting that Sideswipe and Sunstreaker turn into the EXACT same car with Sunstreaker having a modified top intake.

It's definitely pandering. And Diaclone pandering to this degree is long overdue imo.

Real talk it baffles me that they didn't do Sideswipe as Armada Wheeljack instead of Hot Shot who doesn't even fit the mold he uses. I guess I could imagine them thinking a third mainly black deco of the mold is too much but when they've done like three variants of WFC Megatron in standard Megatron colors something like this shouldn't be a problem. Nor should a Snowcat from the obvious mold for it.

 

The picture is of Armada Wheeljack / Micron Densetsu Rampage, who was a former Autobot with a vendetta against Hotshot / Hotrod after he was left to die. It turned out that he was wrong, but the fact that Megatron is the one who saved him probably didn’t help anything...

 

No no, something very grim about Micron Legend that was tragically lost in translation in the Armada dub was the fact that Hot Rod/Hot Shot did actually abandon Rampage/Wheeljack to die out of cowardice and fear for his own life, and telling him he was going to get help was just an excuse. He doesn't actually try to help him until his superiors tell him they're not sending any rescue. It's a very easily missed difference but it gives Hot Rod a much deeper failure to overcome when he saves the new rookie he's mentoring, Stepper, from a similar situation.

 

Yikes. Never watched the Japanese one all the way through so I had no idea that Hot Rod really did abandon him.

 

And to think people say Hot Rod did nothing wrong.

 

Possibly because G1/Diaclone Red Sunstreaker (under whatever name) and G1/Diaclone Yellow Sideswipe (again, regardless of name) aren't typically mistaken for their brother, even left in vehicle mode. (I daresay more people confused Red Bumblebee for Cliffjumper)

(MP Spin-out made those distinctions far more invisible, which is a testament to just how similar the cars really are, but the differences were always obvious in G1)

 

Really wish I had my Sideswipe clones here (At my old folks' home, they're at my apartment). Open my last box from my Christmas haul today and I'm currently on a Diaclone high. Really missing Tigertrack right now, and anxiously waiting for Deep Cover!

If you would have asked me a year ago I wpuld have said I had zero interest in Diaclone.

Very sharp deco. Mixed feelings on the mold. On the one hand, great, it matches Tigertrack. On the other hand, I really want an Earth mode Sideswipe and friends (with a spoiler, not just a correct canopy).

 

So for anyone else that was able to order Deep Cover last night, what’s the status on your order? Mine is currently waiting to be sent to the USPS, but the label has been made for it. So that means it’s 100% coming!

 

Damn, I would love to have an excuse to not buy a repaint. Hasbro should definitely do this.
