This actually gives me hope that we’ll get Fortress Maximus in his RID2000/Car Robots colors

 

No room for this. I guess if I broke down one of the combiners I could make room for one of him and the ark.

 

After Grand Max failed to perform well in Japan, many claimed that was the last nail in the coffin of Titan Class repaints, my observation has been that by making it a Japan exclusive, they shot themselves in the foot, limiting the market almost guaranteed its poor performance, GS on a larger basis is a much better option.

Hopefully with this new prescedent set, we can eventually see

2. Metrotitan
3. Gigastorm
4.Grand Max re-release
5. RID2001 / Car Robots Fotress Maximus / Brave Maximus although id prefer an updated mold

Okay, yeah, reverse what I said on that point. but my point still stands: It's still Zarak (Scorponok) and not another character. At least as much as Galvatron is technically still Megatron.

 

Not always. Most figures are planned with redecos in mind in order to make the mold more profitable. Hasbro knows it can't just release double the number of figures to stores, so it knows a lot of the figures, especially of obscure characters, are heading to Selects when they plan them.

One possibility is that this is testing the desirability of Titan redecos. Titan molds are very expensive, which makes the toys risky. If they know they can tap Titan molds for redecos, that may provide incentive to continue with them.

I'm kind of surprised they haven't done more of this before now. Like the Titan Devastator they could certainly have done in G2 colors. And now that they are doing a SG line for Pulse, pretty much every character has a potential repaint even if they didn't have one before (like Apeface and Snapdragon).

Ya know - I'd actually buy in on a Brave Maximus...although I speculate that they would have done that by now if it was gonna happen.

I think the Grand Max preorder falling short of the target may have scared them away from that. I'm still disappointed that we never saw the Prime Master Grand released. He was absolutely gorgeous

I kept saying they will never do this, but boy did they deliver. They made a new weapon and head for him, gotta say, love the head - far better than the original toy's.
Guess this opens the door for further Selects titans... Metrotitan, Omega Sentinel, maybe even stuff like BW2 Gigastorm from Trypticon?
I like that they did small changes to not just the head - Zarak himself has a wound on his chest and an eyepatch! Maybe to indicate what I always believes that Black Zarak is just a new body for Scorponok from the Headmasters anime (his body was destroyed at the end of that show)

Btw, curious, none of the leakers said this would be coming, in fact most of them said no new Titans after Kingdom... guess Hasbro is plugging the leaks.

I mean, if these were April Fool's fictional preorders that had no chance of being filled, wouldn't they be on Walmart/Target?

 

New stickers and a horn can make Gigastorm from any Trypticon lying around. That said, I'd rather HasTak do the slight new tool/retampo rather than straight up reissue the original if that ever happens.

RID2000 Fortress Maximus was actually shown in the Legends manga so there’s extra incentive for Hasbro to release it!

I would have pre-ordered that one when it was originally listed, but not including the Prime Master/Pretender accessory was a deal breaker for me, so I let it go. I'm still disappointed about that, so if they did a new release with the Pretender included, I'd buy it in a second.

 

Got the email from BBTS and grabbed one of these from Pulse. I'm not surprised they are doing Black Zarak, but figured they would announce him during one of the shows/fan fest type deals. That is how Hasbro has done most of their Titan "variants". I hope they make that spear available in Scorponok colors (purple). Fasttrack is OK as a spear but this one looks so much better. Now if we can just see Omega Robot and Devastator made in G2 orange....
