I finally got some free time to finish up my Overlord custom out of the Generations Doubledealer mold. This one has been in the pipe for a while ever since javaco released his conversion kit on Shapeways (thanks, javaco!). The kit includes an excellent head and weapon, but the last obstacle in creating a convincing Overlord was the chest. I removed the windshield jet mode cockpit and created a chest out of styrene. It gets wedged in the chest cavity in all 3 modes and is held very securely. The weapon also replaces the need for the existing tank turret. He technically still transforms into all 3 modes, but the jet mode looks kind of silly without the windshield so I didn't even photograph it. He'll be staying in bot mode all the time anyway. Let me know what you think!
I think it could use a few touch-ups or paint details to make it pop. Right now, it doesn't have enough contrast... maybe his chest "doors" should be white, like the original toy? ...but the custom work itself is pretty cool. It makes a damn good Overlord. Kind of surprised Hasbro didn't go with that instead of Double Dealer. (or Flywheels, obviously) zmog
Holy Crap man! This looks beautiful! now i know exactly what to look at for inspiration once i get around to painting mine up. still need the double-dealer figure though hah Im glad you like the kit though!
Yeah, I might go back and give it a black wash or something to bring out some detail. Before I painted the chest doors, it did give it a little more pop when they were white. However, I was going for the IDW look.
I like this overall. I think I'd want mine to be a bit bigger and imposing. I do like this a lot more than the BotCon version.
i think this is a great job but needs a bit more color i think if you would back and painted the area under your chest piece black ( on either side of the cockpit) that would give it some good contrast without having to go back and add a lot of little details.
great work! I really do dig it. since your not using the cockpit canopy in robot mode you should have him wield as his shield. paint most of it black and leave just a bit unpainted to give it that Overlord styled cock pit. also it be better if you used blitzwings since its already yellow.
That's awesome. I've got a half assembled Overlord I've been slacking on just because I don't have a head I like. I'd be all over that one if it didn't come with the gun.
I dont mean to be creepin lol. But I can set up an order for you on shape ways with just the head. no gun. Pm me if you'd like to work something out.
I have to say, this looks a lot better than I would have ever expected it. The head and gun are beautiful, absolutely spot on I think it could do with more bulk for Overlord, but that's not your fault. I think it looks good over all though! Wouldn't mind having one myself
Thanks! I agree there are some on these boards that can do some amazing things with styrene. I'm not one of those people, but I can at least use a pair of scissors. For those interested, the chest details were made from rectangular and circular tubes that I bought at my local Hobbytown. All you need to do is cut them to the desired width and glue them on a separate sheet of styrene.
Beautiful work but I think you could keep the jet mode and make the canopy detachable and transform it into the mega shield for the robot mode.
