Drift came in yesterday. So I hate the look of those old early-90's-era "touge" Japanese three-spoke rims with huge tire sidewalls. So I got him sittin on dubs now.  

I wanted to use the wheels from Movie Jazz, but the offset was wrong and Drift has narrow wheels in front with wide in back; Jazz has fatties all around. So I found that Movie Barricade has the perfect size wheels, narrows and wides too.

Pretty simple to get Drift's wheels off using a soldering iron on the pin for about 20 seconds, way harder to get Barricade's wheels off, its a physically longer pin and takes much longer to heat up, so the damage to wheel bearing is possible.  

Overall this was simple and took about 30 minutes of precise soldering iron work. I tapped the pins back in a bit, then hit 'em with the iron to seat them.

Fixes a huge problem with the look of the alt mode in my opinion.

That works, I like what exclusacon said about the red, but I'd do like red accents.

 

I kinda liked the old wheels better. Yeah they weren't super awesome, but these just look bland and don't fit the car mode.

 

Rims on cars are always going to be subjective; eye of the beholder and so forth.

I agree, cool mods, it just needs some color (or at least a flat black for the rims). I do agree with the OP though, it's all a matter of personal opinion on the rims. I'm keeping the originals on mine though.

 

I like straight black rims, this is a really neat idea, I might have to do this kind of thing with a figure in the future.

 

Also, I REALLY hate the white plastic of the car. And I REALLY hate the red graphics. Overall, I think the stock toy looks ridiculous.

I'm going to revamp it completely. Blacklion29's Dark drift is pretty inspiring... Maybe I'll turn this into Deadend or Wildrider.  

 

I've been doing something similar. My Dragstrip has new chrome wheels on one side. Had to stop working on it cause I was moving. I'll have to finish him up when I get done with Boombox.

I have mixed emotions about this one....I don't really like the stock rims, but I think some color is lost with the all black I do like the red rims suggestion. Nontheless great job. If you like it that is all that matters.

Lookin good but a lip accent is definately needed on the rims.

 

That's what I was thinking. Black rims with a chrome lip on a white or silver car just looks badass. Then darken the windows. Then get rid of that stupid red graphix. And maybe install some neon underglow ? It'd be badass if you could make the neon underglow somehow work well in robot mode too.

 

Throw some spinners on them!
