    Hello,

The owner of soundwavesoblivion.com has very kindly out of his own time translated the pages from the Generations 2019 book on MP-44 Optimus Prime.

Apart well as his website, with an entire section dedicated to translated Masterpiece Tech Specs:

    Translated Tech Specs: Transformers Masterpiece

he also publishes a blog, in which he provides a complete translation of the entire bio and instruction manual for each Masterpiece he features:

    Soundwaves Oblivion: Transformer Toy Archive

If you're ever curious to know what the back-story is of characters like Exhauts or Loud Pedal, or you want to know what details are included in these Japanese Masterpiece bios - his sites are for you!

I will say that there's nothing ground-breaking or amazingly revelatory in these scans, but it's damn nice to have a translation. I contributed some minor edits or suggestions to certain passages, as well as providing scans of my copy of Generations 2019, but the bulk of the work was done by SoundwavesOblivion.

    Anyway, onto the main event:

    Page 8 and 9c.jpg
    Page 10c.JPG
    Page 11c.jpg
    Page 82c.JPG
    Page 83c.jpg
    Page 84c.jpg

Certain small details alongside certain sketches weren't translated. If anyone has the Japanese knowledge or time to have a go, please go ahead! Apparently they don't contain any ground-breaking information.

The cab rear is not pretty. Those parts serve multiple purposes:

    • To store part of the cabs to have a more slim robot torso.
    • To reduce the thickness of rear.
    • To avoid the cab being split by the forearms so opening doors can be added.
    • To store animation accurate gas tanks for bot mode
    • May also contribute to making sure the waist not having to rotate
Sure, they could have made the rear nice smooth if they just do one or two things because it would need less parts.

This made my afternoon! So much for me to love here, but one of my favorites is the note about not adding more detail than is necessary. Editing a design to its essence and executing restraint is easier said than done!

Not saying it's pefectly clean, but Im pretty sure the cab rear is misaligned/transformed, since the back are still his feet, I find it hard to believe both sides wouldn't be symmetric. It looks like another case of them not making sure everything is aligned for the Generations book photoshoot.

What a wonderful MP for those who love the "just stepped out of toon" figures. Takara have really put the effort in here. You really can't get more toon than this guy!

I do find it interesting that in this guide book they say MP-1 was a reimagining of the toy and then MP-10 was "leaning towards" the anime style.

That's exactly how I always saw these figures and felt that this was the intention of the designers but I was e-bashed on here for suggesting this as apparently MP-1 was mostly toon and MP-10 was basically the toy version. Nah. You can see the progression through the three versions.

There's currently two threads for people to shit on MP-44. Do you really need a third?

I know his backpack is a big complaint, I’m curious if there is gonna be a 3rd party attempt into making a slimmer backpack like shadow fisher with ironhide/ rachet.

That transformation is impressive. I love that the windows aren’t technically fake, just flipped. Much like the BW MPs, it’s not that they had to fake certain parts, they chose to for accuracy, and could’ve easily left the real ones if they wanted to compromise on the aesthetic.
