No, it is NOT "based on a cartoon", the cartoon is based on the toys.

Or Puzzler. Diecast parts, rubber wheels, no kibble, and all the members are real world licensed alt modes in the same scale. The perfect combiner, which has never been surpassed.

 

It's actually a legends scale figure. The guy just has baby hands  

 

Hard to tell, what with it being a prototype toy in prototype gray. But the number of windows, the extra step on the skid, the little rhino horn, and the windshield wipers look right. Those circles on the top rear are in about the right spot for the exhaust, but those intake-looking boxes on the sides don't look right.

And if it is a Bell 429, then Hotspot's alt mode would still be bigger.

I can't say it was perfect but it was the best for its time. I wish one of the 3rd parties would take a updated shot at Puzzler.

Maybe blades can have its heli tail can be transformed into some form of weapon (like GB crane), and groove could be a 'goldwing' type of bike?

Anyhow the protectobots are probably one of the hardest teams to get all the alt modes in the correct scale. I'll be content if GT End up with a detailed and well sculpted defensor similar to GB or TFM havoc.

 

Almost makes me wonder if they will also offer Rook as an alternative option for those who'd prefer everything be in scale.   Hell, a MP-level take on that guy could actually really rock.

 

Yes-ish. Technically, TransFormMission is doing the IDW Menasor, but it's been acknowledged that they're "sister" companies. Their packaging seems identical, and they seem to use the same factory. TFM's Menasor is even going to have a mini Optimus build-a-figure to go with the mini Megatron from GT's Gravity Builder. Maybe just different designers?

And while the Gravity Builder Constructions were very stylized and some members better than others, their combined Devastator is easily my favorite (and I have it, ToyWorld's, Giant, and Combiner Wars). Only Wildrider's been released from the Menasor, and he's my second-favorite figure released this year. I'm cautiously optimistic about a GT Defensor, then, as long as it's the same size as the other two combiners they've done. TFC's looks too G1 toy-ish combined, Guardia looks great but is too small and finicky, and MMC's is probably still years away.

As for FansToys, I've got a shelf full of Warbotron-sized combiners. I'm not in the market to replace them just because
-it's FansToys (I don't get the FT hype)
-it's "MP-scale" (the debates about whether something is "CHUG," "MP," or "chugsterpiece" is irrelevant when you're only buying 3P figures).

In any case, seems like FT announces more stuff than they've released, and it's years before stuff that's announced ever gets released. GT/TFM could do every G1 combiner (including re-doing the earlier Warbotron stuff) before FT's Devy even gets released, let alone any other combiner team.

 

If that's Blades, then Defensor is half my size.

Nah, probably do like maketoys did- make their devy as self-contained as possible... but the other gestalts will have extra parts (head, hands, feet) like menasor. Just a guess.

Me too. I love Guardia, and I was on the pre-order train with GT Devy, but I think this time around, if this is Defensor, I will have to wait until the whole set drops before I make a decision.

Also, I wonder if there will be a Tyrant-like figure in this set too? A tiny Prime?
Tyrant and the Megasorry (which I never got either of) were a nice touch, I wonder if we might see this again.

Except that this is a third party toy created three decades after the cartoon. The cartoon is most definitely not based on the toys that we're discussing in this thread.
