Just for fun, the opening for the Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy crossover video boardgame Itadaki Street Special (30th Anniversary special, 2017) And for fairness' sake, the same opening with what I think is a take on the Final Fantasy prologue theme.
Very small update on Dragon Quest XII from a recent magazine interview. Just going to copy/paste the short article here and link the source. Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate ‘to shape the next 10 to 20 years of Dragon Quest’ - Gematsu Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, which was officially announced in May, will shape the next 10 to 20 years of the Dragon Quest series, Square Enix president and CEO Yosuke Matsuda said in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu. “Dragon Quest XII is being developed taking into account the next 10 to 20 years of the Dragon Quest series,” Matsuda said. He added, “There are parts that remain consistent with the traditional image of Dragon Quest, but new elements are also necessary. After all, as a brand we always need to innovate.”
Hard agree. Part of the charm of the series is how the basics stay, but what you do with those elements evolves.
Question here because I thinking of getting one because of sales, and because I've seen opinions all over the place: Would you guys recommend either of the Dragon Quest Heroes games or no?
Both games are good but I'd recommend 2 over the original. The original is mainly tower defense maps while the 2nd has you traveling around the world to fight enemies. 2nd game also has more characters and new mechanics to use in battle.
Square Enix has a survey up for Dragon Quest fans. I don't know how to link directly to an active survey, so I'll just link to the article I found it in. What Do You Want To See From The Dragon Quest Series In The Future? Square Enix Wants To Know It's mostly about your experiences with the series, but at the end it asks what you want to see in the future. Personally, I don't worry about changes to the formula so long as the development team has real passion for the project they're working on. It's the sterile corporate mandates that are bad. A team wanting to do something a little different doesn't worry me.
Thanks! I'll have to remember to do this during the evening when I'm back in front of my home computer.

A couple weeks ago, one of the big names of the franchise, composer Koichi Sugiyama, passed away at age 90. The music he created will forever be a part of gaming history, but his passing also brought up his controversial views, some of which would probably be unable to be discussed within this board.
