I see lots of members really want this guy. I am curious as to why. I think its a cool enough figure so I picked one up, but I didn't expect this one to be popular. I don't know much about the character or the significance. What I get out of it that it's a movie verse plane done in somewhat G2 Powerdive toy's colors. Is there anything else I am missing that makes this guy so great?
I can't speak for anyone else, but Powerdive was one of the VERY few TFs I actually had as a kid. I only bought TFs during the first year of G2, switched to Godzilla after that. Sure this isn't a helicopter, but the new head and mask, colors, and tampos do a pretty good job bringing back a very obscure character. Plus, I already got Highbrow for being a vague representation of a P-38 Lightning, which is a brilliant plane. I may not keep him though...one of this mold might be enough, there are plenty of things about it I don't like.
Well... plenty of reasons. For one, it's a really fun mold. Just getting the obvious, dull one out of the way. For another, it's got an awesome, unusual alt-mode. A lot of us have been in the fandom for so long that anything novel get automatic points. I can count on one hand the number of WWII era fighter plane TFs, and that's awesome. Shark deco on the cockpit. C'mon, that's awesome. Highbrow itself was pretty tough to find. I only remember seeing him and The Fallen's remold twice or so. As you mentioned, he's a G2 reference. Which are fairly few and far between, but a lot of people got into TFs around that time (myself included) so we're pretty excited. Honestly, that's more than enough to explain the amount of excitement I've seen for the guy (seriously, he hasn't gotten as much anticipation as, say, Hot Spot). I don't mind saying that Powerdive is one of my favorite TFs of 2012 so far (... chances are MP Prime and Soundwave will interfere in that regard when I get them), but he does have a lot going for him. But like I said, I don't think that he's even all that in demand. EDIT: I still think he should've been Ransack. The alt-mode and head are DEFINITELY more Ransack-y than Powerdive. The color scheme... could've gone either way, since the two were gang-molded. But ah well.
I don't have much or know much about G2 but with all the G2 homages recently I may need to start a small G2 Classics shelf. So far there is that Jazz from the Ultimate Giftset, Bruticus, Powerdive, Megatron, maybe more?
Well, Universe Inferno, RtS Prime (and the redeco from the Ultimate giftset), DotM Space Case... My current list of G2 homage is here: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...eneration-2-appreciation-thread-2012-a-3.html
I didn't realize Inferno was supposed to be G2, I have him on my G1 Classics shelf. I mean yeah the toys were very similar, but I didn't realize he was released under the G2 banner. I miss the search feature. I would really be interested in that thread!
FYI I edited my post with the thread... found it using the Googles. And yeah, Inferno was released as G2 series due to the whole "water blast" thing, which I think was pretty cool of Hasbro. That said, I'm still hoping for an update of Hooligan... Fearswoop doesn't count because the figure is worse than the one from 15 years ago.
1) He's a world war II plane and World War 2 is cool 2) He's based on a G2 character so he sort of fits in with classics and Euro/G2 Botcon toys 3) He's got Skybyte's head painted on him. 4) Highbrow was not made widely available in the UK so a lot of people might have missed him 5) He's got a cool helmet gimic 6) His overall articulation is pretty good especially in the legs. As nice as I think he is though - I would like him even more if someone clever could make swords/wing extenders for him. That said he isn't perfect his hands are a little awkward, and the prop spinning mechanism does not work so brilliantly. But he's not to tiny and they do often still make a lot fewer Decepticons than Autobots so it's nice to have some extra Decepticons, it's also pointed out he goes rather nicely with Reveal the Shield Lugnut too.
