Hi. I've never traded in any games (or any consoles or accessories for that matter), and was wandering if those who have could answer a couple of questions I have. I'm thinking about getting a new X-box and Halo:Reach when it comes out, and have some old PS2 and X-box games I wouldn't mind getting rid of. 1. Is the in-store credit for old games worth bringing them in? or is it very minimal? 2. I've heard that when trading in an old system for the latest version that the trade-in credit is greater than it would be if you weren't getting a new system. Is this true for games? 3. Is there a maximum number of games you can trade-in at one time? (there's at least 12 games I'm considering trading-in atm). Thank you in advance for any and all help with this.
I know you get more if you go for store credit with games then you do if you want cash or at least they used to do it that way .
Make sure you have an Edge card and wait until the promotion is in your benefit. If not, the credit, especially on old games, is pretty paltry.
1) Older games can get you from $0.75 to $10. Amazon.com and Toysrus tend to give slightly more for trade ins than GS, but its usually minimal. GS doesn't take OG Xbox games any more. For newer games, usually $20 to $30 with a rare $35. Video Game Trade-In Values - Cheap Ass Gamer Toys"R"Us Video Game Trade-in Center Amazon.com: Video Games Trade-In 2) Gamestop does do trade 2 games, from a list, and get Game X for $20 on most major new releases for the first week. Usually the tade in list is for newer games but occasionally a random older title. Gamestop.com - Trade-In Offers 3) No, 12 is a smaller number compared to the trash bags full of games I've seen lugged in, It is the clerks discretion though. Sometimes they limit the quantity of the same game,.
They've got a great offer this weekend on trade-ins as well. 30% extra credit on 5 plus games. I got over $50 credit just for 6 games that weren't that new yesterday.
Screw trading in unless you find a fantastic deal and try to sell them, either through Craigslist, Amazon Marketplace, Glyde, and/or Cheap Ass Gamer. Heck, I sold some stuff here. You'll wind up getting more money that way. Edit to add, go to www.cheapassgamer.com At the top of their home page, you can type in the name of the game and then you can find out how much the game is going for new, how much used, the trade in values at Game Stop, and how much the sellers on CAG are selling their copies for. This will give you a ballpark of how much you can make if you try to move them yourself and you'll be able to see exactly how much Game Stop is screwing you over.
This is just personal opinion but only trade in to GS as a last resort. They will give you as little as possible and sell your game for as much as possible. You would honestly be lucky to get 8 dollars a game (for ps2 games) out of them if that.
you might get more money doing junkion, ebay, or craigslist. i traded in the force unleashed 1 month after release and they gave me 17 dollars. then they sold it for 55 dollars. they are a rip off company. they sell some gba games for 30 dollars still. i go to this place called the exchange they got cheaper prices and more rare hard to find games and have all systems too plus all music types and video types with some action figures.
Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll be selling some TF's here on the boards soon, so I'll probably just go ahead and try to sell the games here too. Who knows, there might be someone here on the boards looking for some older games. Though there are three games I imagine I'll have a hard time getting rid of, and those are the Xbox games I want to get rid of. They're the three Burger King themed games that can be played on both the normal Xbox and the 360.
If I was you I'd try selling your games on like eBay or here and if they buy so & so(or use BIN) throw in those games for free, that's what I just did recently.
Don't forget craigslist! I never sell to gamestop unless I have no choice. I usually try these first Craigslist Half Ebay Gamestop
I know this is an older thread, but it's only like 5 months old (not zombie territory yet!), so I thought I would use this instead of starting a new one. I won't trade in games to Game Stop any more. I was going to trade in MWF2, Transformers: ROTF, and Dragon Age for the original Dead Space. They offered me $16 in store credit for the three. I said "nevermind", and just bought Dead Space with cash. So, you're giving me about $5.33 per game that you turn around and sell for $40, $25, or $20? I mean, even if the amount of store credit they give you was based upon how many of the games they have on their shelves already, it's still bullshit because they should be selling them for a lower price so they aren't clogging up the shelves as much. Greedy bastards. I'd rather just keep the games on the off chance that I might play them 1 more time each, than sell them for $5 a piece. I'll have to check out Craig's List or some of the other options people posted on here. I could probably sell the games to a friend or relative and get at least $10 each (and that would still be a steal for whoever bought them!) And that's about twice as much as I would get from GS.
yea I have like 25 games I dont want anymore and they offered me $17 and that was store credit I said no thanks and walked out with my games. granted none are that new but cmon thats a friggin ripoff
Anyone expecting a lot from trade-ins outside of much newer titles (and the prices you get back on those can be quite good sometimes) is deluding themselves, they're a business trying to make money. Hell a better comparison for trading them in is a pawnshop really. That said when I need quick cash and I have a few games I don't care to keep around anymore they're usually the first place I go.
I wasn't expecting a lot. I was expecting maybe $25. In the past I could have gotten that much for 3 games of that caliber. It just keeps getting worse and worse. I don't even know why they bother buying games from people anymore. I could sell it to a random person on the street for twice as much and that person would still be getting an amazing deal.
