I just finished Persona 3 Portable and honestly... it was a mediocre game, mechanics-wise. The dungeons are repetative, most of the gameplay is point & click, many of the sidequests are just fetch quests, and the enemy designs are heavily recycled. Yet... I really like this game. It was fun and I liked the story. I wish more games were willing to go places this one did when it came to standard JRPG tropes. Another for me is the Dynasty Warriors series. Yes, it's mindless button smashing for the most part, but it's fun mindless button smashing. Plus, it covers one of my favorite periods to read about. Quite honestly, when I last re-read the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, I found myself imaging them in the DW designs, despite how impractical many of them are. So, what are some games you know aren't going to win any awards, but you still really like?
