So i was wondering. Do games that have patches eventually come out with a version (disc version) with it already patched? Is there a way to tell (barcode #, etc) on the case? And how long after release if it does?

There have been a bunch of games that have 5+ GBs worth of patches which is a lot.

Few, if any do as far as I know. Most of the time updates seem to always be required.

It sucks, but as long as people throw money at companies, this will continue to happen. Assassin's Creed Unity is a great example. It is an unfinished game, rushed to market by the developers, without a single fuck given to what the players are getting in return for their money.

Patching basically destroyed the need for thorough beta testing. Back during the cartridge and early disc days, if a game was broken, it was BROKEN! But of course beta testing nowadays all comes down to the particular company developing the game.

Dang. Yeah i only really thought about this after reading Assassin's Creed Unity's current 6.7GB patch. There are games i eventually want to get and was hoping a patched version would be made.

If there is a "complete collection" or "GotY" version down the line the base game will most likely be patched to the latest version.

Man I love the victim mentality people take with this stuff.

But yeah as said, a goty edition would likely be the only patched version.

THIS! Those releases should be fairly current.

And corporations love the gamers that will just take it, eat up anything, defend them, and disregard standards. It's only your hard earned money after all. Do as you wish. Software, hardware, etc...I don't support sub-par SHIT.

Yep. How I avoided all the patching for Skyrim. :D

How is it a victim mentality? Not everyone has unlimited bandwidth, and crap like a 6.5 GB patch could potentially eat up a lot of their usage for the month. Most PS2/XB games were 4-5 GB for reference, so that's a pretty huge patch.

    That's awesome.

Usually disc versions are patched and if not, the patches are made available. As long as a company owns up to its mistakes and does everything they can to fix the game, that's fine by me. If it constantly happens for AAA titles that I shell out $65 for, then yeah, I get pissed. Companies rushing games out before they're ready has been happening for forty years, and its always a case of producers and company owners versus programmers.

I do not mind a few small patches that fix some small gitches or exploits but huge ones to fix something big that should have been found and fixed before release piss me off.

Are you sure that's not the install file for the game? 40gigs definitely doesn't sound right.

Strange. The PS4 patch was 6.7 gigs.
