I understand that's the writers' intention, but we're talking about a soldier who wouldn't flinch if his nipple was cut off.

Missandei ending up in the clutches of Team Cersei was an absurd contrivance anyway.

oh not saying the situation wasnt contrived, but this is also the man who wanted to give up being a soldier after the war to take the woman he loved away from everything and live happily. people do stupid things for love, so while he probably could have controlled himself, the reaction he had is much more human and realistic

But that’s the problem, the writers wrote themselves into a corner with Greyworm and now his character arc is down the tubes.

He went from slave soldier to a fully realized character, an honorable soldier who showed restraint and nobility. He was never portrayed as a mindless drone that needed direction or wild animal that needed to be caged by Dany. But that’s all gone down the tubes because he’s now just a raging soldier who took advantage of his leader’s madness to exact revenge.

He murdered unarmed men that had surrendered.

He’s no longer the noble, restraint soldier. He could have had some character growth here, and began to question his identity as an unquestioning soldier but his romance with Missandei and her murder got him to this point.

His reaction makes sense from a storytelling perspective but it’s a terrible story choice. It’s a crap end to a very good character. He didn’t deserve to go out like this.

BTW, I am guessing that the decision to drop Young Griff is what blew up the ending making sense .

Personally felt like episode 5 was a nasty return to form for me after the battle of winterfell felt a little anticlimactic and nowhere near as heartbreaking and brutal as it should have been. If the measure of a good game of thrones episode is how appalled, upset and confounded it leaves you feeling then episode 5 is another classic.

Most of the moaning seems to be from those who want everything over-explained to them and predictable. A ‘happily ever after’ ending after killing the evil queen Cerci would have been boring with no ambiguity to it.

It just seems like another case of once a franchise reaches a certain size the fans become toxic and entitled when the storyline doesn’t follow their exact expectations. Add Star Wars and many others to suffer from this. MCU doesn’t suffer from this as it doesn’t really do abrupt story twists as every main hero character who dies has to have nearly every aspect of their story neatly addressed or resolved before they die which sadly doesn’t make it feel very realistic.

This is just out of line. We can have disagreements of opinion without personal attacks, can't we?

Her goal may have been one thing, but does that mean that the methods used will automatically be just? I'm pretty sure we can find many real-life parallels where people commit atrocities to achieve what they see as a just and moral goal.

We only have to look at the last century for that sort of thing (not to mention the start of this century) - Churchill's fire bombing of Dresden for example.

I have theory about what will happen in the final episode.

Danierys seems to be reverting back to embracing the darker side of her fathers legacy essentially becoming the mad queen and perhaps she won’t be the only one reverting back to their fathers ways.

The mad king was stopped by a mixture of a young Jamie stabbing him in the back and his hand Tywin Lannister giving the order to murder all of the Targarian children and she currently has a Lannister hand and there is a talented young assassin around with Aria so perhaps a similar betrayal could be about to happen. Bron is still the wild card so perhaps he could reconnect with Tyrian for something pretty cruel.

They could poison, use wildfire or murder in their sleep to massacre the unsullied and Dothraki and form loose government from whoever is left alive.

It feels like they tried to big Hollywood movie the last season instead of banking on what kept people following along all those other seasons. Everything feels rushed and the attention is on wanting the big special effects moments to be the focus of everything.

Feels like the season could have used a bit of siege time to build up a bit of tension instead of okay an episode to do all that we are doom bits before the big budget battle episode. All the political stuff can be cut out since we will just say hey that place that used to be important has a new leader that would like to join us but we have to rush off to the next battle so whatever.

The show has had shocking moments in the past but it felt like there was a build to get you in the right spot to make that shocking moment a moment that really caught you off guard. Now shocking moments seem like checking off the boxes as quickly as possible so they can wrap up the series. Instead of wow how about how that character died it feels like characters are eh just killed off with only a few deaths that feel like big moments.

Watching the last episode is feeling like a chore right now just so I can complain about however the rush it into something that pales compares to the other big moments in the show's history.

I admit, this season is a little rushed. But people saying that it needed more buildup? Come on! Does no one remember her saying to the Spice King of Quarth

"I will take what is mine, with Fire and Blood i will take it"?! Really?!

    And more build up...

She lost 3 of her most loyal friends and trusted advisers, who kept her calm, and offered strong council. (Jorah, Selmy and Missandei)

Tyrion has failed her multiple times and is clearly torn by wanting to serve her and protecting his family.

Varys betrayed and tried to have her poisoned, despite the fact that her hand told her he would be loyal

Jon (Aegon), in her eyes, betrayed her by telling Sansa the truth about his birth. Heck, even that revelation nearly tipped her over the edge.

She has always had this madness inside her, and it was kept in check by the above advisers, and they are no longer alive. (Missandei's capture was a bit...far fetched, i admit) If anything Game of thrones has gone back to what made it great, losing the predictability and showing everyone once again that there won't be a happy ending. It's been rushed yes, a crowd cheering at Missandei's death, or just one more ep, might of justified or solved the issue, but saying there hasn't been any build up to this point is completely wrong.

And now a quote from the late Maester Aemon.

"A Targaryen all alone in the world is a terrible thing"

People need to re-watch this show from Season 1, cause there has been more build up to this than people think.

I believe the intent of the body of water between Dragonstone and KL was to imitate the English channel. In that case, having people end up on opposing sides has strong historical precedent. Clearly Euron's fleet would have captured single small craft in the water. Not improbable.

The real problem with Danny's turn isn't that there was no build up. Anybody believing that wasn't paying any attention at all. The problem is that she had ALREADY ACHIEVED HER GOAL. The throne was hers. The city had surrendered. If she felt the current Queen needed to be dealt with, fine, deal with her. She had never before on the show attacked the innocent, and had repeatedly said she would not kill the innocent for no reason.

Then, at her ultimate moment of triumph, she snaps and starts smoking children in the street.

It's the weird way they don't provide believable scenarios for these big character turns that's really rubbing people the wrong way. How about not having Euron be a three shot instant badass one episode killing the dragon and then be a bumbling moron the next not able to get one shot off, let alone three? Have Jon ride that dragon into battle, have them taken out by a scorpion, and hear the commoners cheer. *BAM* Reasonable reason for Danny to snap. This isn't difficult. The writers just plain don't care. They want those big shocks and they'll shoehorn them in any way they can.

Meanwhile, go back and watch the build up to the red wedding. There was a menace on the air during that episode, and you KNEW something was going to happen. It may have been shocking in the moment, but it was a pay off that was well received even if people didn't like the result because it was totally believable in context. The Danny turn makes no thematic or contextual sense. And I get that some people are fine so long as they get to see Drogon burininating the city, but some of us enjoyed the show when it actually was telling believable stories.

And the first person to say the dragons automatically mean nothing is believable will be instantly reminded why we're all on this board.

I think that Dany’s only thought at that moment was having Cersei watch as she destroyed the city. She could have gone straight for Cersei but she wanted to cause her as much pain as possible. “I have taken your city. Now watch me destroy it.”

I don’t necessarily think she has gone full “mad queen”. She snapped for sure, but I think, or hope at least, that she will realize that she snapped and be remorseful. Not that it makes what she did any better, or is forgivable, but a repentant tyrant is more interesting than an explicitly crazy one (like Megatron in MTMTE/Lost Light).

I kind of think she did it to make a serious point to the people of Westeros. That it was she who overthrew Cercei, and razed the Red Keep and King's Landing to the ground. Not Jon Snow and his Northerner army. She wanted to underline that she is in power and show what happens if you mess with her. Ruling by fear as she said she would.

Considering that was the entire reason her father was killed, just shows how much of a sociopath that she is and that she's no better than him.

Hard to watch just to troll with one episode left. This isn't walking dead, lol.
