I just purchased my son a kingdom galvatron and was wonder who here has done the shoulder fix. Im woried about doing it. Im afraid that i will mess it up. Thanks in advance.
If it's still in the box, you could return or exchange it for one with correctly assembled shoulders as some copies don't have the shoulder issue.
It's pretty easy but also easy to get wrong and damage the figure. The guides on YouTube help. Please don't use screwdrivers though, proper nylon prying tools will ensure no damage at that stage. Ifixit prying tools set c£9/$9 off amazon work well. Having tested out on a couple of figures now, pre soaking the shoulder area in hot/warm water does help. Pouring some kettle boiled water over the pin area does help the pin release too. It can take quite a bit of effort to release the pin as they are barbed. I prefer the quick kettle boiled water method. If you get stress marks, water from the kettle will remove them quickly enough. You want to pry apart from where I have shown the black and blue prying tools in the first photo. If you align the upper arm on the seam it separates easier as more movement in the joints too. When reinstating, go in over the same area as below. The final photo is how it looks before re inserting the pin. Note the alignment of the upper arm seam. If you find you overheated the plastic and it stays separated, pour kettle boiled water over it for a few seconds at a time until softens. Hold the joints together and then run under cold/iced water whilst hot to help reset it. These photos were taken on the first shoulder I did and didn't heat at all. It shows how much give there is in the plastic and shoulder joint going in cold. I had to heat the second shoulder on my first figure as the pin would not release.
If.you don't feel comfortable trying to make the repair your self then don't. 2 solutions. 1 - Keep looking for a fixed one in stores. They exist. I'm one of the many that did find & purchase the fixed version at brick & mortar. I was grateful because I knew I wouldn't be able to do the fix. Only real negative is actually finding the fixed version in stores right now. You may have to wait 2-3 weeks for them to reappear in stores again. Don't do online as most of them have been unfixed. 2 - Simply rotate the shoulders around so the pin faces forward instead of back. It honestly doesn't look all that bad. 2 negatives. The treads plug into that pin hole in robot mode which they can't do if reversed. And you will have to unreverse the shoulder before transforming. The peg on wrist snaps into rectangular slot on front.of shoulder. Hope this helps. Do what you feel you can do.
Having both I can tell you honestly. after a couple of new figures you stop caring about the shoulders. It’s barely noticeable. He’s an epic figure.
This is a much easier solution and in my opinion looks better than the normal fixed shoulders anyway. https://www.jrcdesignstore.com/product-page/galvatron-pin-and-arm-covers
