So encouraging theft is a good thing?
I would try asking if you could have them seeing how long they have been there. If the answer for some odd reason is no, THEN offer up some bucks.
If they're going to be that offended by you asking about some toys that are sitting in a closet, then they are pricks and I'm glad they're not my in-laws.My in-laws are cool. They've seen my collection, and if it was at their house, they would say just go ahead and take them.
I don't like the sound of your wife's response! She married you beause you're a Transformers nerd like us in here, yet not being supportive or even an attempt to ask her cousin?
I don't think that was directed at you, but rather G1 Cindersaur. He is the one that basically said, "steal the toys."
The only reason I could see this would be a problem is if the cousin is dead.
And his dying wish was for hit toys to be used and destroyed my random kids.
If this guy however is off on a yacht or could care less I don't see a problem.
And I'm sorry but if I drove someone 15 hours I wouldn't expect to be told no to any reasonable request I would make.
ME: May I use your parents restroom? WIFE: Oh. no honey the gas station is just around the corner is that ok?, she would be driving alone the next trip.
If there was some kind of falling out with the in-laws over something as trivial as this or even the wife, some people have some deep seated problems.
Best thing I ever randomly found was a sealed G1 board game in my neighbors basement. I figured if it had been sitting there for what was about 15 years at that time they probably didn't want it so I asked and they let me have it.
I'd say go ahead and ask. The worst they could do would be look at you weird and say no. No harm no foul.
Don't take the toys that are in the home... but go look in the river. Who knows, you might find some Seacons!
But on a more serious note, if you explain how much these toys are worth, and give them the current going value for them(i.e. what YOU would have to pay to get them) to buy replacement toys, I'm sure they'd be VERY happy to take your money.
Sorry if this post gets all weird, I got champaign and vodka in me.
Over dinner just now, my wife's cousin came over to eat with us and visit. Without me even asking, my wife's aunt looked at me and said; "Mike says you can have the Transformers down there."
I offered him up money real quick and he said no, I'm family so it's fine, he didn't even know he had Transformers down there. I told him I felt like I was ripping him off and asked what I could possibly give in return, he said: "A blowjob." (jokingly, people, in case you get all homophobic) I asked: "Right now?" We laughed like ******s and drank us some alcohol.
This is a good day that the 15 hour drive is totally made up for by. I got to boat today, they have a hot tub here (I get to see my wife and my sister-in-law in swim suits!), there's cable TV - I don't have cable - and we're watching Star Wars: Clone Wars the movie on Cartoon Network right now, I have new G1 Transformers, and there's free alcohol.
I say buy some cheap replacement Big Lots toys and switch them out.
Edit: Holy crap, sweet score!
All's well that ends well.
Sweet! I take it that they are hot then.
of the sisters anyways, we have all seen the toys before.
Under no circumstances would I condone just taking them.
We DID bring our cameras. I'll see what I can do!
Absolutely not. It was either get persmission to buy them (or in this case, have them), or leave them.
*Sigh* Nobody claimed you would condone such an action.
Effin sweet, this is EXACTLY what I wanted to hear!
I was with you and the whole 'take your cousins old toys that he didn't even realize he had or care about'. But this is a touch creepy.
You should be able to see your wife anytime and, while you may think it, you may not want to post your excitement about seeing your sister-in-law half naked. Something odd about that.
But congrats on the toys!
