    While some of those are hillariously stupid, Gravedigger would've been a good one for Scrapper.

    I liked Beeper for bumblebee as I never really fell for that name. The others kinda suck.

    Anyone noticed this other post yet? Probably doesn't warrant a separate thread in this forum as it's a project pitch, but y'all be the judges...

    http://www.allspark.com/forums/index.php?act=findpost&pid=815233

    Attention Fanartists: I put together a book for IDW (Transformers: The Ark) and am in the process of putting together two more. I'm going to be pitching some new ideas to IDW in a few months and have one that needs a variety of different artists - a Cute/Sexy Pinups style book. There are tons of female characters, robots and humans, in the Transformers mythos. If you are interested in participating, drop me a line at transformers the ark, at yahoo dot com. (no spaces, no commas) I've got several of the IDW regulars agreeing to do a piece or two if given the greenlight, but having some actual pieces in the pitch will make the project much more likely to go forward. This is a great chance to show off your talents and maybe get some published pieces.

    Best,
    Jim S

    I remember having a coloring book or Choose Your Own Adventure story and wondering who Gravedigger was. The writer must have been given an early list of character names.

    "Coolsville, Beeper, Muscles, Sourball, Sniffer, and Greasefinger - transform and roll out!"

    "Me Jawbreaker kick butt!"

    "Constructicons, transform and combine to form The Destructoid!"

    "Maddog, Slazer, Cat: Eject."

    "Big Boss?"
    "Yes, Cool Hand Lube?"
    "Why do the Go-Bots always laugh when we introduce ourselves?"

    Forget what Shakespeare said. Transformers would've sucked if they used these names.

    It seems to me that TF's were competing with Gobots in terms of naming the robots...

    It seems to me that whoever came up with all the names that didn't get chosen got his revenge with Beast Wars.

    I love the show but the first season names suck.

    Cheetah = Cheetor
    Tarantula = Tarantulas
    Rhino = Rhinox

    Give me a break.

    Although, none of them seem as bad as "Greasefinger".

    I think it's cool that Omega Supreme was originally called Fortress Maximus. That would've suited him well. Also, can you imagine calling Grimlock, Tyrannobot? That sounds cool and strange at the same time.

    Oh, and "The Destructoid"? Glad they went with Devastator. Although, if they include the Constructicons in the movie sequel, they could go with something like "Destructor" since Devastator is already taken. Then again, maybe not. :eek:

    Muscles? .... But he doesn't have... :sly2:

    Beeper? As in BEEP-er? Oh boy.

    Sniffer?

    :lol  @ Coolsville.

    That. Is. So. Wrong. Ratchet did dodge a bullet there.

    So, is this the origin of the in-fiction Swoop/Divebomb connection?

    Not a bad name for a tank.

    And the Destructoid will fight Courageous or something?

    :lol

    :lol  Watching that Robot Chicken episode and now knowing the doctor's name could've been Dr. Cool Hand Lube gives it a whole new meaning. :p

    We've got to remember, though, that some of these are not intended to be actual NAMES for the character. Some of them are, but the ones labelled "Nicknames" - well, that's all they're supposed to be, not ACTUAL names. If you look at the original Allspark thread on the topic, you'll see that some of the nicknames actually DID make it into little-seen official printed media.

    Just saw the profiles with the nicknames. Still ... Cool Hand Lube is so wrong, even as a nickname. :lol

    It's neat to see bits of history like this. Although some of those names are outright goofy.

    *giggle at Ratchet's old names/nicknames* Oh man, that just awesome.

    ...I'm very much amused that Jetfire was going to be call Fireball. And I don't know why. XD
