good lord even worse... I feel like the only backgrounds that can even come close to these are Filmations He-Man ones of Eternia
That's terrible if they are actually destroyed. I hope not (even though we'd probably never see them even if they were still out there!). What I'm posting here is literally just a small fraction of the paintings from G1: most were obscured by animation cells or were simply not very good, but try watching even just one episode and counting the number of different backdrops - it's a heck of a lot. So if they still exist it would have to be a very big box!! There must have been more than one artist working on these (would love to hear from them if anyone knows who they were!). I think you can even tell there are different standards of workmanship.
Actually, it's best to keep them separate, as OptimusTimelord's backgrounds are very specific and there's enough for his own resource here.
Gorgeous. Although I'm not a fan of G1, these make me appreciate the beauty and style of it. I also like how the Ark exterior and Mt. St. Hilary shots capture Americana so well.
These backdrops are nothing short of excellence, thank you so much for sharing them OptimusTimelord! (will post pictures of them in use once I find a satisfactory way to print them)
excellent work optimustimelord throw in some scenes from Lookout Mt. and the scenes with Dinos vs Devs.
Thanks a lot for the backgrounds. I've been looking for a Decepticon base tower picture for a while now.
Thanks guys! Nothing from Lookout Mountain I'm afraid robvega, but this is the setting for Dev's attack on the city:
keep it up on the G1 Backgrounds. can you by any chance get a few more from some of the old construction site scenes as well? some backgrounds from City of steel would be most excellent. sooo many great scenes chalked full of background art on the old show. Maybe get a few of The Planet of Junk as well.
It's a while since I went through seasons 1 and 2, and I was only looking for Ark or Cybertron backgrounds, so I'll have to go back and see. Not every shot can be deconstructed though, so there might not be anything usable... Cheers bud! So going through S3 it's very apparent that the overall quality of art drops. It's notorious for bad animation but even the backgrounds are often just a couple of brushstrokes! Still, there are some decent efforts. Here's the highlights... It baffles me why they couldn't just re-use the wonderful panoramic painting of Autobot City from the Movie (posted earlier); instead we get cheap imitations (these are the two best versions, others were a lot worse)... The geometric Cybertron of season 1 becomes a less detailed but more fluid, colourful world in S3... And random stuff...
Quintesson scenes... This was a slanted panning shot, so I've lined the frames up and rotated the image to make it vertical for easier viewing. Also did a bit of tidying up around the edges... 'Webworld' proved to be one of the best episodes for unusual alien backgrounds... Random space shot...
'Carnage in C-Minor' also had some interesting backgrounds. From 'Grimlock's New Brain'... and finally, 'Call of the Primitives'...
