I think what you are asking for is a remake, not a reboot. Most of the old cartoon's charm is the animation and music...so a remake would not fuel the nostalgia like you think it would as opposed to simply watching the old show.

Like I said, the only way I'd support this is to continue the series where they left off rather than go all the way back to square one.

I want another Armada (though not in the sense of remaking that particular line). Take the basic concept of transforming robotic aliens, the idea of some of the core cast plus some new characters (even if they reuse old names) and do something novel.

I don't want yet another redo of G1. The next line/show should be a proper reboot like UT or Prime.

To go with this, I'd pare down Generations a bit and kill the Primus-awful excuses for shows that its been getting lately. The resources saved here would be put toward the reinvention line and show, to make both high quality enough to appeal to adult collectors as well as kids. There would still be the retrospective collectors line, but it would be pushed to the back burner a little to allow Hasbro to develop a solid direction for TFs moving forward.

Anything but a continuation of the G1 cartoon. I love the pilot and 86 movie but most of the episodes were badly written and animated even worse with rubbish like Alpha Trion, Orion Pax, Primacron, Carbombya, Lord Chumley, the Hate Plague and Kremzeek.

However, if they insisted on a soft reboot/continuation of the G1 cartoon, only acknowledge certain episodes like the pilot and the movie and base it on Marvel UK.

Who wouldn't want properly animated and voiced versions of Target: 2006 and Time Wars.

So, what we've gotten for the last couple of years? Yeah, no thanks. Originality over spitting the same thing out over and over.

At this point, if they wanted to reboot G1 again, I'd rather have something where one of the later G1 characters get the spotlight like Star Saber or Dai Atlas. Even a Rodimus series would at least be different. Idealy though, reboot one of the other series younger fans grew up with or create something totally original.

Weren't they supposed to make a cartoon that takes place between season 2 and TF:TM?

Never heard of one being planned. Dreamwave was kind of trying to fill that gap in, IIRC, but ...

I'd like to see a cohesive and coherent season 1 and 2 that has a deliberately conceived plot through line that prepares the story to transition into the 86 movie, with the idea that the resulting rebooting of the 86 movie could also benefit from the reboot "improvements ".

The toys I would largely point in the direction of modern updates like Kingdom Cyclonus for example. Animation accuracy is high, solidity of materials and construction are durable to withstand play from children who aren't going gingerly handle toys, and elegant transformation patterns that children can navigate relatively easy while being appreciated by toy collectors.

I think it's a shame that RID 2001 wasn't written and dubbed in such a way that it takes place during that time. I think some creative writing could have made it work.

I always that Masterforce could make a great live action show. Most of the main characters are humans and Pretenders. But I'd only be interested if it was made in Japan.

I much prefer the separate show we got. No need to shoehorn it in - that way leads to madness, sweaty palms and Takara's G1 timeline.

Now this I could go for.

I actually prefer Takara's G1 timeline. I like the idea of the original Sunbow Transformers cartoon and Mainframe Beast Wars cartoon existing in the same continuity with Japan's Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory, Beast Wars II, and Beast Wars Neo. I just wish Car Robots/RID could have been in there too.

Thank you. I couldn't for the life of me remember the term for that genre.

I don't mean simply including the Japanese G1 stuff. That requires very little effort to fit together. I mean Takara's take that everything is somehow tied to G1, regardless of how difficult the mental gymnastics to make it fit are. Stuff like the CR characters somehow being time travelers from post BWNeo.

I'm not sure this is technically correct, but I count car robots as takara g1. It's still somewhat connected because there isn't onther separate continuity totally blocking it. Everything else though is just too much to comprehend.

@Skylanderformer - As a Geewunner who's been in it from the beginning, my nostalgia runs deep, and I'm certainly enjoying the current, and long awaited, G1 faithful toys in the WfC and upcoming Legacy lines. That said, I also agree that there's room for something new and original in the franchise, like Animated or Beast Wars, each of which brought something completely new to the table in terms of character explorations, different looks for the characters, and new stories for said characters. Right now, Hasbro has five different toylines for Transformers that I'm aware of: Playskool, Cyberverse, Cyber Battalion, Generations, and Studio Series. Personally, I think there's room for a sixth series, something unrelated to G1 that does its own thing with all new characters that can fit in with Generations. Perhaps a crew of explorers that left Cybertron eons ago and have traveled from planet to planet absorbing the knowledge of each, using their unique ability to transform to observe, undetected, mostly, the indigenous species of each. Their travels bring them to Earth. However, long-growing differences between members of the group create an irreparable rift, and the team breaks into several new factions, as they left Cybertron before the war between the Autobots and Decepticons began. One group would continue their archeological/anthropological studies, while another, tired of the traveling and seeing the resources of Earth and obvious advantages they have over the humans, seek to create a new Cybertron through guile and manipulation. A third group devolve into thugs, using violence as an expedient towards achieving their goals. Just my thoughts towards creating a new direction for the franchise. I think it needs something fresh, too, instead of constantly milking G1 of every drop of its originality. I'll walk that back just a moment to say I absolutely love the current spate of G1 toys that we've been getting since the Combiner Wars line onward. Keep 'em coming; it's what I've been waiting for since I opened Prowl, my first Transformer toy, in 1984, and felt both elated at the beauty of it, and simultaneously extremely underwhelmed by the lack of articulation. It was a bittersweet moment that stayed with me until the MP line was introduced in 2003 with MP-01 Prime, and hit its personal crescendo with me with the introduction of MP Prowl, that gorgeous holy grail of Transformers toys that I fervently longed and prayed for, and never thought I'd see. And now I have Earthrise Prowl and his mold mates, which closes the circle for me. G1 is in my blood, and I make no apologies for loving it. however, I think there's certainly room to expand beyond it, to do new things, as has been done with Animated, Prime, and Beast Wars. However, I think a total break from all G1 characters would be nice- a brand new complement of characters completely unrelated and removed from G1, allowing for a clean slate for the writers to build on. If they set the thing on Earth, let it be before, or after, the time of Optimus Prime and Megatron, ancient history, as it were. All that's left of them is the disintegrating remains of the Ark still embedded in the mountain where they crashed centuries ago, and maybe a Dinobot or two buried within in long stasis. B/c Dinobots are awesome. :)

As for a G1 reboot, to address the actual topic at hand, honestly, I'm not sure I feel it's necessary. Personally, I'm only a fan of First Season, which had a more mature tone and an overarching plot (Megs getting resources to travel to Cybertron, then replenish Cybertron's energon resources, and finally, to bring Cybertron within Earth's orbit to maintain his control). Second Season and beyond became much more eclectic in its stories, devolving into a lot of silliness and whim, which didn't appeal to me. So, for me, G1 is pretty much First Season, and The Movie, with which I also have reservations. I guess if they went back and replaced all the poor cell animation with modern CG, but kept the original music and voice work, I'd be down for that. But the War for Cybertron series on Netflix is essentially a G1 reboot. I like the art direction, but I thought the voice work had a lot of issues that made watching it painful at times. However, it told a decent story across three arcs, even figuring out a way to introduce the Beast Wars characters in a way that makes sense, although they'd be grotesquely out of scale with the real animals they're imitating, so the disguise aspect is moot. But, this was a G1 reboot, like it or not. Personally, I'd take First Season over it any day of the week, but YMMV. If you're asking about something else, then I'm not catching what you're throwing, as the saying goes. This G1 fan is content with the original show, happy that faithful G1 toys are finally being made in the main line after so many years of waiting and wishing, underwhelmed by the Netflix show, and wishing for something completely new and divorced of G1 to present itself to keep the franchise from atrophying under the weight of its own nostalgia. G1 has existed next to non-G1 stuff numerous times throughout the history of the franchise, so there's precedent for new things to cohabit hearts and shelves simultaneously. Hope you're reading this, Mr. Goldner.

If I could have any kind of toyline and series going or right now, it would be animated part two. Give the figures actual articulation and have the show continue from season four and run with it. Will we get it? Likely no way on earth at the moment. But I still hella want it.

Car Robots definitely fits in better with G1 continuity than RID. RID was written in such a way that it is definitely a separate continuity. Car Robots doesn't appear to directly contradict G1. The problem is that there is no explanation for why the original Autobots and Decepticons aren't around.
