If you want to discuss the different "G1 Soundwave" figures that have existed so far, you can do it here. Whether its about which one is the best, or just about how the figures themselves tick. The reason why I made this thread is because I'm currently trying to decide which Soundwave figure capable of becoming a tapedeck/jukebox I should buy, and I have no idea what to pick. I'm stuck between MP-13 and Siege, I need comparisons and contrasts between the two so I can make my decision.
The 2019 rerelease of MP-13 has iffy quality but the previous versions should be fine. The only advantage SIEGE Soundwave has are more traditionally moving hip joints. SIEGE also has a weird alt mode and tapes compromised by their sized class(as in, don't expect Rumble to be anywhere near as good nor comparable to MP Rumble). I have the TRU MP-13 and SIEGE Soundwave. The MP tapes can be fragile. FWIW I think the Soundwaves were both designed by Hasui Shogo but while they have similarities, ultimately they're aimed at different markets. Go MP if you want a more G1 experience by far. The only benefit SIEGE Soundwave will give is saving more money
Of the two, I only have Siege Soundwave. I like him a lot. He's an excellent figure in robot mode. His alt mode is just okay, but the awesome robot mode more than makes up for that. However, since you specifically mention wanting a Soundwave that becomes a tapedeck, I'm thinking you might want to go with MP-13. From the pictures I've seen that mode is pretty good. I believe the tape player mode for Siege Soundwave is a fan mode, and it shows. Kind of neat that someone came up with it, but honestly not that great. If a tapedeck alt mode is important to you, I'd say don't get Siege Soundwave. If it's not that big a deal, save yourself a lot of money and go with Siege. Myself, I'm happy sticking with Siege. The MP seems cool and all, but it's too much money for something that won't scale well with the collection I'm building, and I really don't want to start building an MP collection right now.
Seems like a good excuse to repost the pictures of my Soundwave case... BOORRRING. What's inside fool? Oh ok. That's pretty cool. Always makes me smile.
Made me smile too....and a little jealous. I've got the Hasbro MP-13 and the Siege version. This is coming from a guy that loves the Siege Soundwave (well, bot mode anyway). Get an MP-13. It's widely regarded as one of the best highlights from the Masterpiece series for a reason - great look, fun transformation, decent articulation, and great alt mode. I may be a little biased since G1 soundwave was my first transformer, but for me it hits all the nostalgia buttons and sucked me into the Masterpiece line. If cost is an issue, you could get one of the KO versions (I recommend the Robot Hero version). Quality is almost as good as an official and you can get Soundwave with 5 tapes for $60 to $70 bucks. Of course if you aren't comfortable with a KO I'd still recommend an official version if you can find a decent price used. When or if Fans Toys releases their version, I'm betting e-bay will be swimming in MP-13's. Still keeping mine though.
I have seen several. G1 Soundwave-A few years ago, one very awesome member here allowed me to purchase a G1 Soundwave for my boyfriend for Christmas. I also got a Soundwave as a surprise gift from a friend earlier this month. He's an awesome toy. I like the feel of real metal. I like the buttons and the functional tape deck and the transformation. His face is kinda turtle like but that's alright. I like how big he is. Hero Mashers-This was my first Soundwave. He's sturdy and photogenic and because he doesn't transform or have a working tape deck, I'm free to assemble his crew all hodge-podge. He's one of my favorites figs. RiD15-This was my daughter's first Soundwave. She's a fan of him. His face is okay and he looks a bit odd. But she likes him. Seige Soundwave/Soundblaster-These dudes are awesome! They're the ideal (affordable) Soundwave. They're big and well proportioned. Totally dig the cracked glass look and he can push his own buttons and the firey look of SB is really rad. I bought these guys for my daughter and boyfriend. I'm highly tempted to get one myself. I have an itty-bitty classic Soundwave keychain. Nice looking. I love that @tikgnat
I have one soundwave. TR Soundwave. Might not be the best soundwave, but to me, he is the one true G1 Soundwave
No, it pops open but there's not much space. There's a slot for a uuuh. Mini SD card? Something nobody uses anymore. While I'm here I collect Soundwave figures (in case the case didn't tip you off). I took this before Siege Soundwave was out... but you get the idea.
I only have three Soundwaves in my collection: Takara MP Soundwave (first issue), Wal-Mart's G1 Reissue, and Siege Soundwave (and his Soundblaster repaint). Out of all three of them, MP Soundwave still remains my favorite just still kind of leary about those leg connects at his hips being so thin looking. Siege Soundwave is good for his robot mode but I do not like to acknowledge his drop ship mode. I prefer his official mode being his lamp post/computer terminal mode. I also apprectiate Has-Tak making something more of his minions as armor attachments than just cassettes. Now I come to G1 Soundwave. I grew up during G1 but I never had a G1 Soundwave. My first G1 Soundwave was the first US reissue during the 2006 Classics line. I picked it up because he was a popular character and there was a Soundwave sized gap on my shelf at the time. I liked having a G1 Soundwave finally but the biggest drawback (to me anyway) was the fact Hasbro used Soundblaster's double tape deck door. It just didn't look right to me. I wanted to get the later SDCC Soundwave reissue with the single door but I couldn't afford to double dip at the time. But since the Wal-Mart reissue was released with the cassette 2 packs, I decided to pick that one up and sell my 2006 TRU reissue. Bad thing, I have yet to open it or the cassettes because they look so good staying in that G1 packaging. If my local Wal-Mart ever decided to clear them out (still full price at mine), I might buy another to open.
I have the new Walmart reissue of G1 Soundwave, the Hasbro Asia reissue of MP Soundwave, the YoTG MP Soundwave, and Siege Soundwave. If you want a really fun figure with a non traditional alt mode, Siege is awesome. But if you really want the Walkman alt mode, MP-13 is the way to go. He looks awesome, is nice and big and imposing, and the MP Cassettes, while potentially fragile, are amazing! You can get the new reissue (YMMV on quality) for $88 shipped on Amazon Japan.
Looks like either one of those candy toy kits or a KO but it reminds me of Soundwave's colors in the Marvel comics.
Junior Soundwave KO, which was the only Soundwave I had as a kid, so he's special to me. And, he has die cast parts (the parts of his lower legs that become the front of the alt mode) so he has a surprising amount of heft. So much so that when I finally got to handle a G1 Soundwave (as an adult) I was surprised how light he felt.
My first Soundwave was the Actionmaster and I loved him as a kid. My best friend gave him to me for my birthday and I got AM Megatron the same day. I loved them both. Though Soundwave was sold in my collection purge of recent years. I picked up the 2003 reissue and later Soundblaster. I remember I was outside Forbidden Planet in Dublin talking to my first fiancee. I was facing the shop window when I saw him. She said it was funny how my face just dropped and my eyes lit up when I spotted him. After I bought the Voyager WFC Soundwave, I customised the deluxe version as Hound with a Shapeways head. Anyway I'm rambling. My current Soundwave collection includes: G1 Reissue Reissue Soundblaster WFC Voyager World's Smallest Titans Return I'll probably pick up the Siege and MP versions. I'd like to get another Actionmaster at some point. If only there was one that could quote some of his G1 lines in his G1 voice. A different one depending which cassette you put in.
My first transformer was the 1984 Soundwave as a Christmas present in 1984. Ever since then, I have slowly expanded outwards. I currently have a G1 Soundwave collection consisting of the Cassette-Man Takara MicroChange Series, the Taiwan release of the same, the Italy release of the same, Recorder Robot released by GiG in Italy, Canadian Radar release, 5 US release mold change variants from 1984-1986, Made in France variant, German/French/Dutch/Spanish Europe release, English/French/Dutch/Spanish Europe release, 1987 Japan Soundblaster release, 2003 Soundwave & Soundblaster releases as part of the Collection Series in Japan, The Zhong Jin KO release, the TRU Commemorative release in 2007, 2007 Encore release, 2009 SDCC Universe release, 2012 Encore Soundblaster release, 2012 SDCC G.I. Joe Crossover H.I.S.S. Tank mini release, 2013 KFC Mugan Vox release, 2013 ehobby Shattered Glass release, the Linkin Park release, the 2015 Year of Goat release, 2016 G.I. Joe Club Soundblaster mini release w/Scarlet & Black Cat, the Walmart release & the TCG SDCC Variant. Still in the final touch up stages before posting pictures. I have a similar collection of G1 Blaster & both the Autobot & Decepticon cassettes. Work at Amazon keeps me away more than I'd like. Some day they will appear here for our mutual enjoyment. I am not a major fan of the more recent releases. The plastic, lack of die cast & transformation tooling don't have the same feels as when I was a kid. That disconnect is likely the why. I know others enjoy them & love of the Series is what matters most.
This thread needs more device label. He can play MP3's! My first MP3 player. Horrible control of songs so i put my dj mixes on the SD card -
If I am now unemployed because of the gatherings bans rolling out, I may have time to finally get my pics started so I can join this energon measuring contest so to speak ;P
