That’s been the mold along with the hinges on the outside for some time now.

No legitimate pre-orders because it’s a Walmart exclusive. I’ve seen one store doing “pre-orders” at a large inflation but I would guess it’s more of a proxy service.

Someone smarter might want to confirm what i’m Saying though.

Robot Kingdom does preorders of store exclusives because they're only exclusive in the west.

The changes on Soundwave were supposedly a running change from 1985 on but I have to tell you I was collecting back in the 1990s and never saw that until we had the Soundblaster reissue and a few "Soundwave" reissues using the Soundblaster molds.

You're correct - the 1986 Japanese release of Soundwave featured the exterior buttons, which were then also used for Soundblaster in 1987. Earlier versions of the Japanese Soundwave were the same as the US release.

One other running change - the 1986 instruction sheet was slightly different. The instructions for Rumble were changed from a photo to drawing.

Sorry to go slightly off-topic here, but I took my eye off the ball for a few months and now did I somehow miss out on getting Gears and Warpath? Have they already come and gone?

I've seen them, out in the wild, fairly recently, so, depending on where you are, you could probably still find them.

I found them a while back. But my Walmart stocked a ton of bumblebees and then a few more gears and warpaths. Might get another set. I have doubles of all the vintage reissues. But I missed out on devastator. :(

Thanks for your replies. Brickseek shows both of them out of stock everywhere across town, and one store had them discounted to $1(?). So I thought all hope was lost. I'll keep hunting.

I have a full stock of them in a local Walmart. But it's hit or miss...some Walmarts don't even carry them.

I'm just now seeing these hit my area stores here in SE Michigan, so you may not have missed them yet.

I have seen a few restocks of these 2 myself. They are still shipping. Though some Walmart’s are not getting them sadly.

The sad part is, by the time one of us bought and shipped one to somebody else, the price would be in the $15 range and that's a deal-breaker. Two or three, the shipping doesn't hurt as much, but I've only seen Gears and not Warpath so far.

Thanks. I have an original Warpath so I haven't been looking very hard. I bought a Gears, but it seems like alot of them have sprue marks or mold degradation on the hands.

I got mine the first time they stocked them. The g1 mini bots seem to be the only things they like to have a bunch on hand of. Only reissue I opened yet was devs so thanks for the heads up on the problems.

The Gears I opened is fine. It's the Warpath I opened that has some internal warping issues during transformation. It's caused some of the plastic to stress, unfortunately. But I have a second unopened one and the Encore edition that's just fine. The Walmart one lives at work right now.
