Sorry if I'm in the wrong place/this is old news, but this was posted earlier on cybertron.ca (by Mario of Automaton toys):

But isn't the rights to his G1 mold (by 'Toybox' or something) what's keeping G1 Shocky from a reissue all these years? [then again we got reissue Omega Supreme & Skylynx which iirc was a similar situation]

I 've always wanted a G1 Shockwave since I found out he was in the 3rd movie. Hopfully that's true.

DotM is certainly a good opportunity to try and pull this off...I already have a G1 Shockwave and the DotM Voyager, but I'd definitely buy this to have a brand spanking new G1 version, since the rubber hose on mine is intact but fraying a bit.

I opened mine and wondered the same thing yesterday.

    I don't think it's indicative that he's coming.

The other ones shown are Megatron and Starscream, and on the Autobots side Optimus, Bumblebee, Ratchet, and Ironhide.

I just think it's to show characters in G1 versus their DotM counterparts. Of course Soundwave is absent, but no pictures tend to be released of him.

Omega and SkyLynx were owned by ToyCo...who were bought out by Tomy.
When Takara and Tomy merged, they realised the reissues were viable.

Shockwave (Astro Magnum) came from ToyBox though.

I would like to think Takara are not just yanking people's chains here, that they have licensing for the mold, or have even managed to buy it outright, somehow.

Well we don't know the price tag yet....... although i'm guessing it would be more than the current Chronicles sets?

    ...Or maybe not.

A Chronicle Shockwave set would sell extremely well I bet. I'd get one, possibly two.

I doubt it. With all that rubber rot Shockwave's cable is prone to and Japan being the only place to re-issue him, Transformers re-issues are pretty much dead here in the States. Kids don't want to see re-issues. Not sorry to say this at all.

Or alternatively, they could do a Chronicles Soundwave and Starscream, then leave the line in limbo.

Those two need a reissue. Really.

As much as I wish I seriously doubt it as A) they don't own the mold and B) it's Largeish and Expensive even if they did have it.

I think a second release of Shockwave is more needed than a 32nd release of Starscream and a 27th release of Soundwave.

If they do not own the mould why is a picture of it on an official box attached to new info. I could see someone argue that they can use Shockwave images because of the 80's but this is a possible advert for a new release not an old concept.

But they could paint Soundwave's eyes red, then he'd be cartoon accurate and they could charge $150 for it.

Also see 'Takara don't make toys for Westerners'.

Ummm, a Chronicle Shockwave reissue...would be a Japanese release. An American release isn't what's being discussed.
